No, sadly not and not being local - i.e. beyond cycling range - I'm very unlikely to any times soon :(

My driving skills are just not up to it...

Noe, if anyone would like to take me and/or accompany me ;)

We need to have a chat about that I reckon, Jim.

That would be wonderful Zel :) I'd dearly love to visit and with you it would be excellent!

We need to have a chat about that I reckon, Jim.

It's somewhere that's on my bucket list, so we might be able to arrange something at some point.

Have to wonder whether it would be the stuff inside I'd be looking at, or outside listening to the noises from the various exhausts...
Don't forget about the telephone museum and amateur radio station attached to it.

I must pay another visit there as they were expecting delivery of the dieselised Rover/Buick engine when last I was there. Maybe we could meet up if all goes well?

I have a mint brochure for the 'Iceberg' engine that I got from the Perkins stand at the motor show - some years ago.

Peter

That's a much later one - not the original FT101 that I remember best - the one with the terrible front-end that would suffer cross-modulation at the drop of a hat...

I've always been a Trio/Kenwood man myself...

I still run and old TS520 to this day...

I think the ZD was the ultimate Jim, it still drifted off tune until it got hot but otherwise brilliant, especially the receive sound quality - and you could get inside and repair it!

I have an FT840 now which I inherited but don't use it much, tried it a couple of days ago and found my HF antenna has fallen down, at least one end has.

Anyone fancy going back to steam powered road vehicles :?:

Quite a bit of graft required

Saw this actual Sentinel DG8 in steam at Tanfield Railway today, so for me this little video on YouTube of a drive round Pickering North York’s was fascinating. Quite a beast :)

I may well get back into it this winter Peter... I've done nothing since last winter really - too busy running and cycling - but that will invariably tail off a little in the coming months...

I want to try and get my morse speed back up again but with my brain the way it is that might be a big ask but I'll try...

At least my HF aerial can't fall down... It lives in the attic... A mag loop :)

Sorry all.. I'm barely back on this forum and already I'm dragging threads off-topic

Hope I don't get banned!

Good idea Neil, let's get back to Steam Vehicles :D

How about a Bolinder Hot Bulb Diesel engine?

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ ... 28412).jpg

They could get quite large;

http://www.oldengine.org/members/diesel ... olind4.jpg

The Bolinder engine was one of the reasons behind side doors in a narrow boat. If you got it wrong trying to kick start said Bolinder engine it could (and often did) kick back with enough force to break your leg and (provided the door was open) throw you out of the boat. Being thrown out of an open door (broken leg or not) was infinitely better than being thown against the side of a boat (the boats were built to last, and a human being thrown against the side wouldn't even scratch it!).

Jim, if anybody tries to use a Ban Hammer on you I shall ask Michael Brookes (from Frontier Developments) if I can borrow his Ban Axe to use on THEM!
