For the first time in more than sixty years I'm entrusting one of my cars to someone else for repair.

The C5 is overdue for a timing belt change, on the age not the mileage, so I've opted to take up Citroen's fixed price deal at the main dealer.

Just couldn't be bothered to do it myself this time, keep being told that at 83 I shouldn't be crawling under cars.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

I'll be interested to see your recommendation - or otherwise! My C5 will also need doing next year. Right now it needs a full service which in spite of my two girls' protests, I intend to do myself. They think I'm too old at eighty-eight.

The fixed price will only be the belt itself Gibbo - unless you opt for any additional options, such as water pump or pulley tensioners.

I know for the X7, they do three options - a belt only or belt and tensioners, and finally the complete kit with all that plus water pump and gaskets. My X7 full kit cost £158 inc. VAT. I had it fitted by my local indy at the same time I had the third steering rack fitted ( :roll: ).

They do the same kit options for yours -

Non OEM: Full kit: 16 091 208 80 - £117.68
OEM Full Kit: 16 095 254 80 - £160.85

The above parts only - so they may change the fixed price fitting if you wanted any of the options apart from the belt.

Have just done the same, Gibbo, on the XM.
Three belts (cam, aux, balancer - all at the same end of the engine), checking of tensioners/idlers, 6.5h labour, and a generally grizzly job (very cramped access). Belts had done 10yrs, but only 41k miles.

At 70, I decided the same. Only bruises were in the wallet, but the job looks to have been done well, and had a bi-lingual chat with the lucky Citroen technician who did the job.

I recently paid £410 at the Citroen dealer to change the cam belt, tensioner(s), water pump and aux belt with genuine parts. Not a bad price overall I feel.

Kind of wish I'd done it myself now, but considering the cost of the OEM parts kit, the labour was very reasonable and I didn't have to worry about sealing the new water pump or tensioning the belt incorrectly etc.

My only issue is that I can't physically inspect the water pump to double check that it's been changed.. but I'll have to give them the benefit of the doubt :?

What I did do was ask for the old belts back - to check how they looked (virtually no signs of wear at all, which is reassuring) and to make sure they'd all been changed: two are completely hidden.

79 this end and I changed my 406 hdi cambelt last year. 8-) It was relatively easy to change compared with my wife's 206 which I will probably have to do next year - if I'm still here. :?

I'm still fit but this time lack the enthusiasm to get on with another timing belt job, I've already done two this year including one that required all the broken rockers to be replaced.

I was going to put new front brake pads on the C5 today but it's raining here and I don't have an inside space, all has to be done on the drive, maybe it will brighten up later. :(

Well it brightened up a bit so the brake pads are done, time for a nice cuppa. :)
