Umm, not really.

Pulling something that heavy is all about traction, and you need weight to get traction. Assuming the average wheel chair user plus chair was about 80Kg that's 4000Kg worth of total weight on those 50x2 wheelchair wheels, compared to 2400Kg of the Tesla on 4 normal SUV tyres.

Also there is a considerable difference in weight of the planes 65 tons for a 757 versus a 787-9, which weighs 128 tons unladden with no fuel, and can carry 138,700 litres of fuel on top of that.

Looks like a potential leap forward for batteries.

Previous Pikes peak overall record (previously set by none other than Sebastian Loeb in 2013 in a Peugeot 208 T16, which is a very fast car - I've watched his pikes peak run) just smashed by a VW electric car:

https://electrek.co/2018/06/24/vw-all-e ... ill-climb/

They were aiming to beat the previous electric car record but beat the overall record as well on their first try.

By the way anyone worrying about electric racing being silent, watch that thing zoom by in the short video clip - it sounds like a jet engine flying about 30 feet above ground. While it certainly doesn't sound like an ICE, it has a sound of its own. :)

Mr Grayling said the proposed measures would mean the UK having "one of the most comprehensive support packages for zero-emission vehicles in the world".

"The prize is not just a cleaner and healthier environment but a UK economy fit for the future and the chance to win a substantial slice of a market estimated to be worth up to £7.6 trillion by 2050," he said.
Yes positive actions needed then. So what are the proposed measures which Mr Grayling talks about.
Measure 1.....
"The need to assess if new homes and offices should be required to install charging points as standard"
Let's hope they deliberate long and hard on that assessment rather than actually getting on and making things happen...

If you feel the need for more inspiration you can read more of the exciting plans and other "measures" here. Reassuring that Chris Toyota Grayling is leading the way....

Why do the government not come up with some action to address the problem of "Creme Eggs", and the effect they are having in Scotland?

You cant beat a survey

Survey: Half of young people want electric cars

Well unless they have very rich parents they aren't going to have much choice, and even if mummy and daddy chip in lets assume they wouldn't be going for a TESLA, or a BMW I3 So what have they to choose from....A Leaf, or A Zoe maybe stifle the yawns please!

Where are the "Electric Midgets" and "Electric Spitfires" to excite the younger generation.

To be fair the survey summary paints a familiar picture
What the public thinks

85% of people overall in the survey said that there aren’t enough public charging points for EVs.
76% said EVs can’t go far enough on a single charge.
76% think EVs are too expensive.
67% think EVs take too long to charge.
67% think there isn’t enough choice of models

Just to back Mandrake up, here's a couple of studies on how much extra electricity is needed if everyone goes electric (somewhere between 0% and 15% depending on how well we manage to spread the charging into the times with underused capacity.
https://energy-surprises.blogspot.com/2 ... -make.html
https://www.carboncommentary.com/blog/2 ... he-uk-grid
It's also worth noting that the UK grid has halved it's carbon intensity over the last 6 years so EVs are twice as good as they used to be not long ago. Your ICE car doesn't get lower-emission whilst you own it in this way. (UK grid intensity is going to continue to fall as the last of the coal stations are closed, more wind and storage is built and new nuclear comes online). It needs to halve again twice over the next 15-20 years.

"Where are the "Electric Midgets" and "Electric Spitfires" to excite the younger generation."
First remember that cars are no longer interesting to most young people. There are more of a necessary evil. Gadgets are cool, bikes can be cool, but people don't aspire to cars they way they used to. They are just forced to get one because housing is expensive and transport infra is poor.
But there are interesting EVs: Riversimple have a nifty machine which you might think is quite 'spitfirey' or 'midgety': http://riversimple.com/ (not that you can actually buy one yet).
Morgan have the EV3 which should be available this year: https://www.morgan-motor.co.uk/ev3/ (I guess that'll be very expensive too though).
And of course Twizzys are cool (but more suited to warmer climes than the UK). Smart cars have gone electric, and the very cool new Honda machines (Urban and Sport, available next year) could easily be a huge hit, the way the Golf was:
You can also get the Hyundai Kona and Iyoniq. The Kona has 155 or 240 mile range and is a hell of a lot cheaper than a Tesla or Jag IPace, although still not exactly 'cheap' at 25 grand and 30 grand respectively.

There are going to be a _lot_ of EVs available in a couple more years. I'm sure some of them will appeal to the youth. Some of them might even be something that mere mortals can afford. That's going to be the interesting bit IMHO - pricing.

I think granny and grandad are pretty well-heeled! What great publicity for that e-type conversion though...surely JLR could sell a few of those to the equally well-heeled around the world.

Was kind of my point; only the affluent can afford EV's (which ideally requires it's own charging point and the private space to dock near it)
I also believe manufacturers are dragging their heels as there's far less profit in EV's, especially when it comes to after-sales and maintenance.
I am not convinced our government are commited to the industry either. They still believe diesels engines are the best option regards CO2.
I do wonder if private-use EV's are really just a fad niche market and other more affordable innovations will take the market away from them in short order.
