Is it a manual or automatic gearbox?

I'm assuming you still have your C5 (X7) 4 DOOR SALOON 1.6 HDi 110 particle emission filter (DV6TED4) Manual gearbox 5? If so, there is no visual check of the oil level for these boxes, as they are supposedly 'sealed for life'.
You have the BE4/5L and it uses the ESSO 75W80 EZL 848 or TOTAL 75W80 H 6965 oil.
The oil capacity gearbox from empty is: 1,9 ± 0,15 litres.
The oil is filled through the air vent hole (29):

Re: C5 1.6 gearbox - how to check oil level
If you are feeling adventurous and want to give it a go:
3. Drain and refill
CAUTION: It is necessary to drain the gearbox and put back the exact quantity of oil, in the event of an external leak or a repair.
CAUTION: Adhere to the tightening torques:
Vent Hole: 1,5 daNm, Level Plug: 2,2 daNm, Drain Plug: 3,5 2,2 daNm
Engine flywheel retaining pin (2).
Remove:
Refill the gearbox either via the vent hole (1) or the top-up hole (3); Using tool [0344].
Refit:
(1) Vent hole. (2) drain plug. (3) Oil level plug (According to gearbox). | Tool 0334 For Refilling |
- Remove the under engine protection.
- Remove the cap (2) to perform the draining.
CAUTION: It is necessary to drain the gearbox and put back the exact quantity of oil, in the event of an external leak or a repair.
- Gearbox empty : 1,9 litre.
- After draining : 1,8 litre
CAUTION: Adhere to the tightening torques:
Vent Hole: 1,5 daNm, Level Plug: 2,2 daNm, Drain Plug: 3,5 2,2 daNm

Remove:
- The service battery (depending on the engine)
- The battery tray (depending on the engine)
- The air filter casing (depending on the engine)
- The vent hole (1) or the oil level plug (3) (According to gearbox)

Re: C5 1.6 gearbox - how to check oil level
Hei Mark.
Thank a lot for all The help. I’ve actually wrote then a replay when I was on the road but it seems that it didn’t pass through. Sry about that.
I do really appreciate the fast response.
It seems that the oil level was the problem. After drained it all and refill it after the specs everything got back to normal.

That’s good to hear Dani. Were you having any particular problems before you changed the oil? It would be helpful to know in case others have any of the same symptoms.

Yes, I was pretty far away from home (300miles) for a job and while changing gears I've start to feel like a resistance, like I was scratching something in there and at some point it was pretty hard to change gears at all. I had to be very careful when changing gears and I had to make it slowly so it would enter where it should.
I had to buy some oil on the road and trow some in there and hope for the best. Actually I've used 1L and it took a while until I've noticed some improvements.
But it was until I was back home and change it all... when things went back to normal.
does make sense?
