Hi all good evening, will try to make this short.
Have read quite a few posts in here and elsewhere about the sub problem but will give a run down.
So have had the Pug Partner 1.9 diesel 4-5 years, over these years ive had the problem only 5-6 times it knocks really heavily, lacks power. All times it was a case of turn off the ignition and restart and all was good.
Couple of days ago I was on way back from hospital, did not get out the car park as the symptom started again, turning the ignition off and restarting did not solve it this time ... Was a long day (Dad emergency bleed on brain operation) and was 30 miles from home.
I decided that as my brother could follow me back I would just try get it home (England beat Columbia, no local recovery drivers answering phone). Anyway Chugging along the motorway at 45mph and all seemed well apart from the noise, not a great lose in power, could easily have gone faster. Got about 13 miles and it just cut out. Turns over ok just not firing. Got it home the next day(after it being impounded) £300 lighter !!!
So this is where im at.
Oil is all around the #1 injector, been there along time (#4 being at the cam belt end)
Cam belt is still on.
As ive read up it can be a few things, injector/sensor. Advanced solenoid. pump and the rest.
My question is where would you start and why did it just cut out. (have i caused more damage) ? Im going to look at it tomorrow and would be thankful for any help or advice.

Hi, Eggy, and to the Forum. The best advice I can offer is to get her onto a Lexia ASAP. There are already too many possibilities to make guesses that won't throw away good money. Fortunately there are forum members who have Lexia clones, know how to use them, and are willing to help out. Here is the list of these members;

Ok thank you, don't want to scrap it, it's a great work horse but on the other side I'm low on cash but capable of carrying out repairs

Re: Heavy rattling then packed up
If its the 1.9 then I don't think a lexia is needed?
If there's good compression on all cylinders and the cambelt and pulleys are all correctly timed (So the belt hasn't jumped a tooth) then surely the suspicion should turn to the fuel pump?

Re: Heavy rattling then packed up
The late 1.9TDs with Bosch mechanical pumps had an ECU to control the timing, so a Lexia can give useful diagnostics, especially with a fault that appears to be related to timing.
The timing belt jumping a tooth (or perhaps more now) is a good suggestion.
