Re: Phone scammer.
I came across this video and thought of you Gibbo (and anyone else who's been cold-called by these scammers).
The uploader (and many others, it seems) like to entertain themselves at the scammer's expense (if the scammer's tied up talking to a time-waster, they can't be bothering innocent folk, is the logic behind it).
Anyway, it's worth listening to the full 54mins (it's hilarious imo) if you have the time. The ending is the icing on the cake.

Re: Phone scammer.
I never get these call, the phone in Devon's not rung this year (I don't think) the London No's had a line fault which, as it's an on-line provider, I can't report & I never answer my mobile unless it's from a name in my phone book - there's been one this year. Why, because I never give my No: to anyone: Why would I, I don't want anyone to call me - the phone is for MY convnience!

Re: Phone scammer.
My mum got another one of these calls last week, claiming her broadband is about to be cut off. She declined the call stating they are known to be scams, to which the agent called her a f'in bitch and hoped her husband (my late father who died of bowel cancer) dies of cancer.

Re: Phone scammer.
Yep, they don't like that at all - best to just put the phone down on them Mike, though I appreciate it was your Mum - and no disrespect, but it's not something the older generation are used to doing these days as this sort of thing just wasn't done then.

If I've got the time I'll string them along for a while wasting their time.
If not, I tell them they're a filthy scammer and to f**k off and die in screaming agony.

Re: Phone scammer.
I do think that if you just screen the calls, hang up or engage and politely decline, they'll keep (and likely pass/sell on) your details for future use, whereas blatantly calling them out (or worse) tends to get your number deleted and even blocked, resulting in less nuisance calls.
They are making a heck of a lot of money out these scams and imo need to know unequivocally that your number/details are not worth a single penny to them.

Re: Phone scammer.
That's true - but thankfully we don't get any on the landline - TPS registered, ex-directory and never give out the landline number - always a mobile - sorted.

Re: Phone scammer.
BT warned against the whistle trick a long time ago, they said it could damage their electronics.

Re: Phone scammer.
Sounds like €800 well spent to me (assuming of course they can prove who blew the whistle which, of course, they can't) - & as for BT, who cares?
