It's possible I'll be visiting the loud end more often but I like to think effecient speakers = lower average volume setting for the same volume in cabin.

Talking of mpg, must check tyre pressures, it's down 1.7 these last few days :(

Both my front tyres constantly lose pressure, so I think I need to replace the TPMS valves to cure it.

As expected, the sound system has bit more oomph to it though it's obvious the tweeters are providing most of what I, as a driver, can hear (unless I increase the rear bias).

And the economy has regained the lost 1.7mpg without touching the tyre pressures :D

Unusual for the tweeters to produce most of the sound. All they should add is crispness of 'top end' high frequencies. They also shouldn't be over-worked; try disconnecting them, and see what the main speakers are putting out.

I wouldn´t bother replacing broken speakers with original ones because they just suck. When you have to replaces speakers, upgrade them at the same time and gain better sound and reliability. And if you have to remove door cards while doing it it´s always a good idea to apply some damping material inside doors.

And if you don´t want to break your new speakers, install some amp that provides enough real power instead of speaker breaking distortion that original HU puts out if you want to listen louder. I just added Match M5DSP amp (really small plug-and-play amp with dsp) after NaviDrive, and sound got much better even without any DSP tuning. For instance without amp sound got worse after 15/30 of volume. Now with amp I can turn volume up to 30 without any sign of problems - and system even sounds louder on same volume level than without amp. So more power is good for your speakers.

Have to agree that many OE speakers are just miserable quality: small magnets, poor quality paper cones, and foam surrounds that disintegrate after a few years. The PSA price on their replacement (OE) units tells you everything: there are few electronics/audio stockists that would even list such a cheap item. Knowing PSA's markup, you do have to wonder at that price!

I'm not into high-power car audio (but agree about having a decent and undistorted reserve of power), but do know a good speaker when I see and hear one - and have built a large number of home hi-fi systems over the years, with speaker pairs ranging from well below €100 to over €3000.

That was the reason for initially making the Pyle Audio (via Amazon) recommendation, knowing that they can provide a good fit in some of our cars.

They say a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link - having poor hearing and tinnitus means I never had the opportunity to become an audio snob, any old speaker will do me :D

The system is now certainly much louder (without distorting), than I need. Not clever to have it loud when driving anyway.

Mike,
The comments I made were in relation to normal and healthy hearing, so please accept my real apologies if they don't apply in this case. Easy to fall into the trap of making assumptions about the way others see/hear things.
Sincere apologies.

No apologies needed, Chris.
I regret using the term "snob" now.
I meant it in good humour, more recognising I'm a philistine when it comes to audio quality.... as it seems I failed to notice three blown speakers for possibly over two years of owning this car.
