its been a while, last couple of ndays out to Cumbria and today in North Yorkshire absolute feast of pre-warboys fingerposts.

So here's one from the mini roundabout at the Village Hall at Great Broughton (on the road to Helmsley a couple of miles out of Stokesley.

..Yes and the significance of the above location...Yellow AA Village Sign one of the 70 remaining in situ by the roadside in the UK is on the wall of the Village Hall :-D

..and to blatantly go off topic....here's a couple of pre-warboys wall signs from Helmsley.

Cumberland is good for old fashioned fingerposts. There is a very little visited patch of the county next to the Scottish Border, and it is a treasure trove of such things.

This one is from the world famous settlement known as RoadHead though.

'Fingerpost' Direction Signs...

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

Well not exactly a fingerpost but an old sign with a perfect patina...even a bit of the 3 missing, beautifully faded and the little reflectors as dull as ditchwater, and probably wouldn't respond to the brightest of headlights on full beam.

Got to be close to being the best old sign in the UK.....unless you can find a better one, photograph it and post it up here :-D

I was thinking it was Belford that Mary Bell hailed from.

Wrong again :(

Sure it is mildly famous for something apart from finger signs though.

Well the avid follower of the Pickled Egg Library who has thumbed through the pages of this will appeciate that The Blue Bell at Belford was one of the important coaching stops on the great north road, and thats the tag line on the village name plates.

I think it was the "Belford Fox" but that just seems to be a pub too, where I was expecting something more along the lines of the Beast of Bodmin.

This little village in "forgotten Cumbria" has appeared a few times on the FCF.

Its famous for a Renault 5 on wooden blocks, and 2 old tractors :-D , and in common with the rest of this corner of England, has a decent old fingerpost sign.

There is a lot of good stuff in old threads, which bypass new viewers so I'm all in favour of a bit of resurrection and repetition....just like I am about to do on the unusual/interesting engine thread.....in the next 2 minutes :-D
