how many notches on hand brake?

Well, After spending an hour outside yesterday in a snowstorm I took the front wheels off and had a look at the "ruined, seized, rusted must be replaced " according to garage, h.b. cables.
To my surprise they were not seized just a little loose, so I tightened up each adjuster nut a couple of turns and HEY PRESTO!!,
all slack taken up, h.brake working fine and guess what
IT PASSED the MOT this morning.
Thanks guys for all your help and advice, you´ve saved me over 150 quids worth of garage bill!!
