When I had an issue with a suspected exhaust blockage (collapsed baffles), I just pulled the lot past the cat off and took it out for a thrashing...quickly proved the exhaust was at fault.

...Bit easier when you're in the middle of nowhere though!

I live in Bexhill and although most people are old and possibly senile, they're not all deaf otherwise that would work!

Anyway I picked up a used Longlife exhaust (for £75) from a really nice guy with a workshop in Thetford. He had some great cars in there (wish I took some photos) including a Pug 306 with a Lynx supercharger putting out 350bhp and a lovely 205 GTI! He also gave me some wheel bolts to replace the locking bolts on my car and Daughter No1's 207 for free.
I won't get a chance to try and fit it until Wednesday or Thursday due to family comitments and even then not straight forward as the exhaust has a plain end to it and I think it may need a flange. I have plans to engineer (bodge) a sleeve from the front section of the old exhaust, if that doesn't work I'll get Tom to weld it onto the cat

Well there are several great big signs!

However Spike Millegan described it as an overground graveyard which is more catchy!

Update
Over the past few days LEZ has done over 650 miles up and down to Norwich to collect youngest daughter who can’t drive at the moment as she has a broken arm.
It reminded me of what a lovely car to drive the C4 VTS is as it went really well, however despite making sure I changed up at about 6000rpm, it still flashed up 2 error messages, neither stopped the car or put it into limp mode. First was the usual Engine Management System Faulty along with Speed Control System Faulty. It meant I couldn’t use the cruise control until a restart, but otherwise went fine. On a different journey it gave me Depolution System Faulty and again continued to drive fine.
When I got home I plugged in Lexia/Diagbox, but that would not work and the program will not load successfully for some reason so I’m currently re installing XP as I believe just uninstalling Lexia and re installing is no good as some bits get left behind.
I then decided to try the car up to rev limit again, just because, so I run to the red line in 1st then second and it’s fine, so try again first then second and still fine, one last go and first then second and still fine (yippee I think) then carry on to red line in third and it cuts out. Bugger!
So better, but not cured. So when the rain stopped I stuck it on the ramps and got the old exhaust off (much cursing and rust in eyes) and the “new” one on loosely, I didn’t have a suitable clamp for the pipe to cat joint and I think it needs a shim (beer can looks like it may work so I needed* a can or two this evening) so left it until tomorrow.
Hoping this will fix it, but not that confidant.

The back box does look as though it could be the one that Davie had welded up a few years ago!

That had been one of the world's better bodges then lol. Lasted a few years. I think I was quoted nearly 400 quid for a full custom stainless steel exhaust for it, instead a few beer tokens changed hands. She's still looking great though.

It lasted longer than it had any right to if this is still the one (& remember your shotgun tailpipe was still on it when I got the car).

It does look like it. That bit at the front end of that box looks welded on with a non original weld, and that's precisely the bit that broke off. The rest of the box was like new when I took it off to get the weld done. It certainly did last much longer than it should have done. Well worth the 20 quid I gave the guy, and he didn't want to take anything. I think a genuine citroen back box for a vts is silly money if I remember correctly.

Not as expensive as one for a C5 3.0 V6, but verging on the ridiculous!!

It doesn't appear to have a MAF, so not sure how it is picking up a flow coherence error. I can't see an EGR valve either, but I suspect it has one? Does it have a fuel filter, and has it been changed?

Yes, I saw that, but it calls it an 'air pump' not an EGR valve :?

There is also a vac solenoid on the air intake circuit, but there's no indication what it's for!!
