2010 C5 X7 Glovebox Lid

Unread post by hawkeye »

Hi chaps,

Does anyone know how to detach the right-hand glovebox hinge? I've taken the hinge-pin out but can't see how to disengage the hinge from the damper. All this just to change the pollen filter which, to judge from the crumpled mess that I've taken out, has never been replaced properly despite all the service stamps in the book! Any help will be much appreciated.

Regards,

Peter

It's a real pain to remove the damper. Once I'd removed the two hinge pins I lost my temper with the damper in the end and just pulled it off.

Putting it back is just as awful I'm afraid, it has a ‘lump’ of plastic that sits in a grove. I didn’t think it would go back ok but it did thankfully.

Is the removal of the glove box lid necessary for the pollen filter change? I don't remember doing it on mine.

I've done a guide here if it helps - no need to take the glovebox off.

I can confirm - no need to remove the glovebox or lid to change the pollen filter.

I can also confirm the damper is a right sod to remove and a right sod to reconnect.

Thanks for all the advice. In the end I gave the lid a tug and it separated from the damper. I needed to remove the lid to get at the bottom row of screws holding the glovebox in place, and I needed to remove the glovebox because my all previous attempts to replace the filter resulted in it jamming halfway in. With the glovebox out of the way I managed to replace it first time, not helped though by the brake-light switch bracket which is ideally positioned to make the job as awkward as possible. I wonder if the designer of the infamous Xantia clutch clip had a hand in this layout! In all this 10 minute job took me a couple of hours, quite barmy for something that is supposed to be replaced regularly.
