PE Jukebox 10 Amusing Songs Revisited

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

Not Hoffnung's first appearance Steve, white exec put it forward in this "theme" night at the Pickled Egg....

PE-Jukebox-10 Mildly Amusing "songs"

I launched it with a bit of Flanders and Swann doing "The Gas Man Cometh" mild amusement at its best!

Any more offerings?

Regards Neil

That's the type of thing James

Right now, live at Albert Hall, Frank Skinner et al entertaining her majesty with "When I'm Cleaning Windows." Apparently HM the Queen as a youngster loved George Formby!

She's nodding a bit (The Queen) but not yet singing along..... :-D

...and the connection tonight...a question tonight on University Challenge. Which musical did "You'll never walk alone" come from?

Yes Carousel. The recording of the song posted up on the Pickled Egg Jukebox was by Roy Hamilton. Gerry Marsden had received a copy of one of Roy's Long Players with the song on, and its association with Liverpool was born.

Roy Hamilton is worth investigating. A very underrated artist, and in some of his recordings very Elvis-like, and Elvis was a huge fan of Roy.

Try this

Mildly Amusing.... a couple spring to mind.

Benny Hill's "Ernie",

a fabulous little ditty; I was never a big fan of his, but this is really quite good.

and Mike Sarne & Wendy Richards' mostly forgotten "Come Outside",

funny to think of Wendy Richards being young, I can just about remember her being 'easy on the eye' in Are You Being Served and she is of course, long gone now

Well this is a bit of slight amusement, and of high significance.

It is reputed to be the earliest incarnations of the phrase "va va va voom" long before Thierry Henry adopted it in his iconic advert for one of France's most successful automobiles.

..and added Pickled Egg Interest for the equipment used......we had one of those decks in our "Radiogram"

I have been listening to this guy recently. He is an *excellent* musician and all his covers are wonderful.

Probably about the right kind of age for many of us... great cover. His Adele and Lady Gaga covers are absolutely fantastic. Far better than the originals!

And one we all know...

Here's a lady you may not have heard of, I saw her in cabaret at the Roosevelt Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard some years ago, just came across her again this morning.
