Re: Worn engine mount
It's a series 2, I think it's part31 that's worn.

Thanks, I shall hopefully get a better look to make sure it is that part that is goosed.

Re: Worn engine mount
Clonks on/off the power is probably the bottom mount - they get oil soaked if there is a HG weep, and then go soft. Not as easy to change as you might hope, the bush really needs to be pressed in / out of the housing - but you need to remove the OS drive shaft to get the mount off the car. I've heard some folk do it by cutting the rubber out, and then cutting the metal ring to free the bush - but you've still got to get the new one in!

Re: Worn engine mount
Drill and cut the old bush centre tube out, and hacksaw through the remains of the rubber and outer steel tube. It should then collapse and come out easily.
Press the new bush in dead-square with a vise, and a large socket to press on the outer bush edge. A very gentle bit of chamfering of the leading edge will help, together with a smear of oil.

Re: Worn engine mount
Hmmm I think that’s not a job for me in my current medical condition. Lying under a car removing driveshafts and bushes is not really doable in my current physical condition, and highly unlikely to be for some time if ever, hence the reason I bought a 31000 mile 107! Therefore that will be a job for someone else. It’s definitely the bottom mount, I did have a quick peek. And the gear-lever moves when coming on and off the power! It possibly was caused by the leaky fuel period which has miraculously cured itself. Had a poke about with a vanity mirror taped on to a ruler and can’t see a leak anywhere, so I’m not touching anything to do with that either!

Davie, I may be wrong but I thought I let you have a spare lower engine mount bush with the little spares pack I gave you...

Re: Worn engine mount
I shall have to go have a look in the shed Jim. Not now though, I went and took lilpug for a run then gave her a bit of a clean. I'm blooming knackered now! Done too much as usual, wash, dry, hoover, windows inside and out, and a quick polish and that's all I can do.

Re: Worn engine mount
Given the part, not a massive job for a workshop. Might be worth getting a quote.

Davie, don't be so hard on yourself... That's a good afternoon of hard work by anyone's standards... All of us would be well knacked after that little lot

Re: Worn engine mount
It's the lower one...it was pretty well past its best when I first got the car, hence the drive-line shunt. I decided it was a job for later or a garage as it looked a pain to get to...seems I wasn't far wrong. As it was more annoying than problematic I guess I just got used to driving around it.
If it makes you feel any better, the *normal* degree of backlash in the Lara's drivetrain is worse. ...and that has two stuffed mounts I need to change. In my case because King Kong tried to seal a leaky rocker cover, with predictable results.

Re: Worn engine mount
It's still a job for later, and/or a garage. I had an unexpected big bill on the house so funds are depleted so all car stuff is on hold. I have still two small pugs running perfectly, and Gabby is not unroadworthy, the engine is not going to fall out, so she can wait.
