My wife’s Pluriel timing belt has snapped, so have been looking at secondhand engines (1.4 petrol). There’s plenty about so I can get one and swap it over. But it’s such a gutless little thing, would anyone know if there’s an alternative PSA engine or engine/gearbox with a bit more power that will fit without too much hassle?
Would anyone know of any upgrades that have been done here or in France?
Thanks
Marc

Re: Pluriel engine alternatives
Why not just do the valves instead of replacing the engine ? Its not a massive job on this engine.
They also came with the 1.6 16v petrol engine.
Could be a lot of hassle to change to a different engine unless you have a complete donor car.

Re the 1.6 will it fit the C3 manual gearbox? I thought they were all SensoDrive.
Maybe a Saxo VTR engine would be an option.

They did 3 Petrols: 2 x 1.4s and a 1.6, and a 1.4 HDi.was the only diesel.

IIRC my 1.4 sensodrive C3 XTR was a nippy little fast revving car, but then that was bought brand new in 2005. I had it for 2.5 years and only got rid of it because my sons knees where digging into my back.

Re: Pluriel engine alternatives
Wouldn't really call the 1.4 motor gutless myself either, as above I found them revvy and very reasonably powered for a 1.4 lump. Perhaps there were more underlying issues caused by lack of maintenance before the cambelt was allowed to snap, sensor issues perhaps?
