Ted Connolly RIP...

Post by ekjdm14 »

There must be a few of us on here who subscribe to Car Mechanics mag? I was shocked and left speechless a couple of days ago when my 60th anniversary copy landed & the first thing I read is that Ted Connolly has passed away! :(

Ted was a contributor since just before I was born & the mag will never be the same without his column, usually one of the first parts I'd read along with tales from the workshop or whatever it's called. I even recall a quote from one of his early features, the Mk1 Astra Diesel, where he was warned by another motorist about the clattering big ends on his new car (obviously not many Diesel cars about in '82)!

Anyway, in the absence of the old CM chat board/forum I thought I'd take a moment to post here my condolences to Ted's family and those who knew him. A real one off and surely will be missed by many more folks than his self-deprecating character would have allowed him to believe. God Rest fella.

I've not read, or even seen, CM for decades - & yet the name immediately registered. I suppose that's fame of sorts. Always sad when we lose someone who, in some way, became part of our lives.

I'd happily do a deal with the Big Man to swap Jeremy Clarkson for our Ted back, put it that way!
