Lorst me at!

Post by Gibbo2286 »

Just spent half an hour removing ten inches of snow from the top of my car........again, cleared the pathway up to the house then a whirlwind pinched my hat, took it and dumped it in a foot of snow in a neighbour's garden a hundred yards away. :x

Just a light covering here but enough for me to enjoy an early morning snowy four-mile run in my knobbly trail running shoes :)

I love running in virgin snow :D

There was a couple of inches of snow in the Reading area this morning (which cancelled the Half Marathon). Driving from Reading to Basingstoke required the assistance of snow chains (as a Mercedes in a ditch wishes they had some fitted!).

Were you running in it James?

Our 2017 Winter Half was cancelled back in December for the same reason and re-run in February...

Although running in snow is great fun and safe enough with the proper knobbly trail shoes it is really quite dangerous after many runners have run the same part of a route and packed the snow down to ice... Then the combination of ice and normal running shoes is like trying to run on a sheet of PTFE...

Safety at all running events is paramount always...

ME? IN A HALF MARATHON? I would barely make it a half mile, let alone a half marathon! I prefer a Snickers, anyway!

London recently had a half marathon. It was scheduled to be at the best time for those who are training for the full London Marathon.

Couple of inches here yesterday as well, but chaining up? Bleh, it'd be nice to have the ability to get up some of the peaks round here in snowy weather but other than really steep stuff the Xantia manages just fine with a careful touch and a pair of budget front tyres! Is it really that hilly round there?

Oh, and I'll keep a firm hand on my hat when I venture out later. Windy here now!

The problem was that the snow this time was of a form that could compact down into snow balls (and, obviously, made for tricky driving conditions). On the A33, near to the Willington Monument, there was the afore mentioned Mercedes in a ditch, and lorries unable to climb a slight incline. Another Mercedes, ahead of me, found driving down this incline was interesting. I did not have any problems.
