Good luck with asking for a "clear and coherent strategy". :? I'm not sure they're capable of it.

So the head of a firm whose buisiness is giving an independent assessment of how much pollution cars emit comes up with this shocker

“Some of the latest diesel cars are as good as petrol cars on pollution,” said Mr Molden,

and goes on to be concerned at the demonisation of diesel, and this most important aspect of the debate

"It could crater second-hand prices of diesel cars"

Boo Hoo!

My View....Petrol Cars will prove to be just as polluting as Diesel and the debate as to which one is worse is a nice one for a bit of acadamic scientific and internet argument. Pollution management is best carried out at the power generation level rather than at the individual car level, and electric vehicles will become the norm for personal transportation.

I am not concerned in the least at "Crater"-ing of second hand prices of Diesel Cars.

Second hand car prices are rock bottom in the UK compared to nearly every other country anyway so not much further value to lose! I still can't believe how high depreciation is here and how a car over 10 years old is worth almost nothing. Doesn't happen elsewhere.

You seem to be correct Mandrake - I looked for Activa's in Europe a few weeks ago - good ones were between 12000 and 16000 Euros. Ouch

Quite right, unless it's something coveted by the fast car brigade, or particularly rare and coveted. Everything else tumbles in value. Company car schemes and policies are to blame. Flooding the market with way too many vehicles makes them cheap.

My Focus ST cost pretty much 4 times what a standard model of the same age would cost.

Dump Your Deezel (your petrol and your wood-burning stove!)

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

MP's have been at it and in the news today a decent quantity of them and after a bit of investigation think we are being too unambitious in our plans for clean air.

The motor car released the serfs from their bonds, time to get them back in their place, on the bus. :(

The MP's (after sitting on their backsides ignoring the illegal air pollution for the last 8 years) now think the car industry should pay for it? That's grand.
What about the oil industry and all the other contributors?

As soon as diesels are off the road they'll be on to brake pad particulate emissions or tyre particulate emissions... this is a war on personal transportation as a concept.

Sometimes I wish I wasn't so cynical.....

And once the powers that be do away with mechanically produced pollution they will attempt to fine us for biologically produced pollution!
