Re: "maximum additive level in the particle filter" error

thanks Marc.. 138K (I bought on 120K)
it was FSH - but I am not sure / doubt the DPF has ever been cleaned. so I don't mind doing that for my first time.. and DiagB does say 100% full unless that's a lie..

the misfire bothers me more.. I want that gone.. and I dont want it to be Aisin shuddering :)

I can lay the car up and do some jobs on it soon, the autobox oil and dpf to start with I think..

sorry, should add that the error message was similar to the first one in your list.

I'm just trying to dig for a bit more info on that code. If it is actually full - I'm surprised that you haven't had any dash warnings SERVICE and or Amber Engine Lamp flashing or illuminated. The manuals are varied and inconsistent for the X7 - some manuals indicate a specific message when the SERVICE light is permanently lit with the following message displayed: "Risk of saturation of Particle Filter (FAP)"

The other related one is when the SERVICE and or amber engine lamp is on with the following message: "Particle Filter (FAP) additive level too low".

Having said that, in later manuals the messages seem to have been removed - so whether that is because of the different engines and injections systems used and reporting - it is hard to say.

Anyway I will see if I can find some more on that code.

thanks Marc :) car still drives as it does.. sort of wallowy and sluggish but it's always been like that.. I dont drive her hard really..

I did notice the DPF was about 98% a few weeks ago, on Diag.. so maybe it has only just become blocked, and not yet thrown a dash error..

If that is indeed 100% blocked - then that is it, as far as regeneration goes - it certainly won't be possible, forced or otherwise. SO will likely have to come off for a manual clean - but I would suggest trying out one of these places (even Halfrauds do one) - for a light or deep clean of the DPF - they have certain chemical products now that can break up the crud and clean them out. Reasonably priced too.

https://www.halfordsautocentres.com/car ... deep-clean

They do 3 levels - a light clean, a medium to heavy blockage clean and a Deep clean - overnight job.

do you think removing it and cleaning it would be a mare Marc? its my normal way of tackling things? ;)

Ok, to try and help you make a little sense of it - as you have the Diagbox info - so maybe you can use it to see where you are on this chart - but I suspect you may be a 'K' John:

You have the Delphi Injection System:
Particle Filter Blockage Levels
Particle Filter Blockage Levels
"D" Differential pressure (mbar).
"E" Volume flow rate of exhaust gases (l/h).
"g" Filter punctured.
"h" Intermediate zone.
"j" Filter overloaded.
"k" Blocked filter.
You can read the above in Parameter Measurements in Diagbox.

Zones "g" - "k" represent the possible clogging levels of the particle filter. The objective of the engine management ECU is a continuous "h" status (whatever the vehicle mileage).
The engine management ECU issues a regeneration assistance request to return to zone "h" (depending on the driving conditions).
N.B.: Zones "g" and "k" are zones were the differential pressure is abnormal.

The engine management ECU requests activation of the regeneration assistance function in the following case: Load level of the filter in zone "j" or "k".

Blocked filter (Zone "K")
The differential pressure is continuously higher than 800 mbars (maximum counter-pressure permitted by the engine), or higher than a threshold which depends on the flow volume.
Possible fault causes :
  • Regeneration assistance ineffective
  • Filter clogged with cerine
  • Incorrect information from the differential pressure sensor
  • No additive
The engine management ECU interrupts any regeneration assistance request and signals a fault.

Backup-Mode for Reduced fuel flow
This back-up operating mode limits fuel flow, and the engine speed cannot under any circumstances exceed 2750 rpm.
The injection system switches to "reduced flow" mode when a fault is present on one of the following components :
  • Clogged particle filter
  • Differential pressure sensor (*)
I've just dug out the relevant bits - so if it starts going into limp home mode you know that it's started to notice!

The only thing I can see regarding that message is that is says the same as the above and that it needs replacing. - Your mileage is commensurate with the end of life of the filter - so a clean has to be preferable in the first instance - I've just checked out the prices of a new one from Citroen £1581.42 - (Part 1740 65) gulp.

I'm so pleased I have the earlier engine John, where the DPFs are anything from under £200 to £350 ish.
