I think there's something funny about the auxiliary system on the C5 because without warning my tensioner broke off and the belt snapped...myglaren wrote:As he turned it off outside his house there was a crack and a clang as the crankshaft pulley fell of into the street

Our 57 plate C5 2.0L HDi 138 clutch still feels OK at 136k miles, there is nothing in the service history to suggest any replacement.
The Dec 2000 Xantia 2.0L HDi 90 estate clutch has always been heavy and the engagement point is now getting close to the floor, but it has done 223k miles.
Wood or Rabbit’s feet or some other form of charm could be required to preserve personal wealth as we could have some clutch liabilities in the offing based upon your other replies.

Considering I had to clutch and DMF done at 45k that’s not bad going! But expect them both having to be done.

Re: How long has your C5 clutch lasted?
My old Mk1 C5 had about 225,000 on it with the original clutch and DMF when I sold it. I am quite easy on gearboxes though.
I changed the clutch in the Xsara at about 150,000.

I believe mine is still on the original clutch.
It will slip slightly once in a while but can go months between slippages.

It’s more of a problem for MK II and III C5s. Never had mine changed on the MKI either. But these later models it’s a different story having had both MK II and III DMFs and clutches below 70k

Re: How long has your C5 clutch lasted?
I'm pretty sure my clutch (87,000miles) is original. It sqeaks or honks sometimes on uptake but isn't going to be slipping anytime soon.
