Post Office robbery!
On Monday this week I got a leaflet in the post offering me £19 a month for 24 months of unlimited broadband and line rental.
Called in on my old friend on Tuesday, she's been a Post Office broadband customer since she joined the online set five years ago, on her table a letter from the Post Office telling her that her monthly charge is to rise from £28 to £29 a month from April 1st together with a rise in telephone call charges.
Small print on my offer leaflet of course says "New customers only."

If she contacts them and threatens to leave unless she gets the new customer deal they will more than likely give her it.

Re: Post Office robbery!
But entirely normal.....
This is why we change our mobile phone contracts every couple of years. Two years in wife's name.... then bin them off for 2 new ones , same provider, in my name taking advantage of any new customer deals..
Tell her to call them and say she's leaving for the reasons Eddie states. I'd be very surprised if they didn't drop her price.

That's my thought too but she's not up to the modern tech 'she's 81 and still uses a typewriter to write letters)
She had a Tesco HUDL2 as a gift when it came out and her daughter signed her up for broadband with the Post Office, I doubt if she has a contract.
I'm tempted to ty to get her to move to TalkTalk where they're offering standard broadband for £18.95 or fast fibre for £22.50 a month and including a free use sim to use as long as she stays.
I've been on their £22.50 deal for a long time, I use my mobile for all my outgoing calls and get a monthly mobile bill with the bottom line always £0.00

AFAIK, this is common practice among ISP's now. Hook the customer into a few years contract for a "discounted" price. Of course, once the contract period is over, that's when they revert to "normal" price but you're then free to decline (ie cancel or negotiate another contracted reduction for several years) and change providers.

This, I'm sure is part of the issue with tech companies and providers. They take advantage of the elderly who aren't as savvy as yourself Eric.

Re: Post Office robbery!
Now that surprises me, as you're closer to civilisation (as it were) than me, at least when I'm in Deb'n!
I thought they'd put the mockers on these "new customer" deals - perhaps that's just banks!
That TalkTalk deal sounds attractive, except:-
it's talkTalk
I've just renewed my contract, even if I hadn't,
I just couldn't cope with another switching nightmare.

Re: Post Office robbery!
I've been with TalkTalk for years, never had a problem so it's speak as you find for me.
I'd be the first to move if there was a problem, done so several times with the energy companies and even dumped Lloyds Bank when they messed up a couple of times.
I do have a feeling though that TalkTalk are building up their customer base with these deals so that they can sell on the company at a huge price to the best bidder in the near future.

I've been with talk talk for years and never had a problem with them, even when moving twice, it was all changed over when I asked for it. I think I have had to ask for help once and problem resolved instantly over the phone.

Re: Post Office robbery!
I was with Talk Talk by accident as I initially was with an ISP that got bought out by another and in turn that one got bought out by Talk Talk...
I only gave up on them due to them not giving me any kind of deal when FTTC arrived in my parish so I went to Plus Net.. They seem OK too...
