After many happy reliable journeys with my citreons and diesel fuel over the years I am (only looking and thinking) about converting to lpg in the form of a Xsara but I hate petrol motors and all those sensor electricity bits and I suppose penny pinching on cheap lpg is my only reason to change, my question is are they reliable as you hear about these aftermarket conversions and do Citroen sell from new converted cars as I would by only buying a used model, and is the xsara a decent motor ?????
or should I stick with my guns and look out for a late low milage zx td (which retail approx the same as a very 30,000 miler xsara whether petrol/lpg or diesel)
also whats a HDI is it turbo diesel or N/A and are these capable of high reliable miles or are there troubles I should know ??
Sorry but still in the slow lane with my 1.9 Zx just plodding along
Cheers

Hello Radar,
Personally, i would stick with a diesel/turbo diesel, although LPG is cheaper, the diesel engine is still far more efficient and consumes less fuel for a given engine volume. I like diesel engines especially Peugeot/Citroen diesels for the level of refinement and the power and torque levels at low rpm. It is widely known that PSA Peugeot/Citroen make the best light diesel engines in the world, and the proof of the pudding as they say, is in the eating!! Anyway, i would not like to comment too much on the LPG thing, as i don't know a great deal about it, but i'm sure some of the other guys will oblige. As for the HDi engine, i have a Xantia Exclusive with the 110hp version of the 2 litre HDi (High pressure, Direct Injection) engine. It has covered only 23,000 miles so it is too early to tell if it is going to be reliable, but i have not had any problems as yet. There are two versions of the 2 litre HDi, the 90hp and the 110hp. I know that the 110hp is turbo charged and intercooled, but i think that the 90hp is turbocharged but without the intercooler, and obviously there will be differences in construction of the engine and the engine management system. I may not be correct with that so feel free to correct me anyone!!
Well i hope this may be of some help! Best regards, Rich.

Hi radar
I converted my 1987 1.9 carburetted bx about 2 or 3 years ago and have found it very satisfactory ,but a bit gutless. I think a modern fuel injected conversion would show less of a power loss and better economy. I have recently changed to a 1.9 diesel Bx, and it is much torquier, nearly as quiet, cheaper to run even though the fuel is over twice the price, and there is no hassle finding an lpg garage. I also get the boot back, and if you dont like the smell of diesel on your hands after filling up, well, lpg smells even worse! Much as I like the idea of the lpg, i will probably let the kit go with the car as the diesel is simpler to live with. Just my thoughts.
PS anyone want an elderly 19trs auto with gas conversion?

ooo thanks guys,
mmm I really fancy a xantia and its ride, I miss my Bx for the comfort if it had been auto I might have still got it today it just that clutch cable snapping thing in the middle of nowhere at silly times of the day that got me fed up and I couldnt trust it
I didnt realise that you could get lpg on your hands I thought it was all a case of speed fit non leakage "TEMA" hyd fittings and safe and spillage free, U learn every day from others experiences
Cheers anyway
