Completed maintenance: Forum software update 27/2/2018

Post by xantia_v6 »

On Monday morning, shortly after midnight, I will take the forum off-line for a few hours to perform a software update and some minor database maintenance.

It should be back on-line in time for Jim's morning posts :-D

The Maintenance has now been completed, and this forum is running the latest version of phpBB (3.2.2) and the latest version of the we_universal style (2.5.4).

If you notice anything missing, or behaving strangely, please report it here.

I've noticed weblinks don't open in new tabs / windows when you click on them. I'm running Firefox (latest).

Edit: That should be some weblinks.....
The BBC link in Steve's post here viewtopic.php?f=2&t=53436&start=1920#p567601 doesn't open in a new tab for me, whereas others do. :?

It should be fixed now, but you may have to refresh your browser cache (ctrl-f5) to pick up the corrected code.
BTW, a more direct link to Steve's post is: viewtopic.php?p=567601#p567601

I have noticed that the bottom line of my signature is being chopped along the bottom. This is happening on both my company laptop and my personal PC.

EDIT; I have seen this problem affecting other members' signatures such as, for example, Xantianut.

There was an intentional change to limit excessive signatures, but the effect was more severe than intended. I will load a new version in a few days, when some other minor changes are ready.

I have adjusted the signature formatting, you may need to refresh your browser cache (ctrl-f5) to see the change.

Long signatures have the first 6 lines displayed, any longer go into a scroll box. We encourage you to put lists of cars into the 'my cars' section of your profile.

Although the problem with that is... The profile section doesn't show in mobile view (whereas the signature does) and you can't post hyperlinks in the profile section (so you can't provide a direct link to the relevant profile page for a particular car that you own, for example)

What's the issue with signature strips being over 6 lines long?

Incidentally, I've noticed that in mobile view, the signature strip now appears to be cut off after something like 2.5 lines?

I think that it is reasonable to limit the displayed size of forum signatures, The current configuration displays 8 lines of signature (at standard font size) on desktop and mobile devices.
You just need to make the first 8 lines interesting enough for people to want to scroll down and see the rest.
