JLR selling off a collection
Jaguar Land Rover bought a large collection from James Hull some time back, and are selling some of it on, with no reserve. Some of the vehicles are interesting;

Re: JLR selling off a collection
I had a look through the offerings and think I've had my spanners on most of the models at some time and owned a few of them, no desire to buy any of them now.

Chevette HS for me please. Always had a soft spot for Vauxhalls prior to the Astra.

Re: JLR selling off a collection
I was asked to sell a Chevette, an ordinary one in a washed out pea green colour, by one of my trade mates, he'd been trying to sell it for months without any luck, it stood on my forecourt for over a year until one of my customers crashed his car and was desperate for immediate cheap transport, he bought it and loved it.
His wife however was not impressed "Green is unlucky"

You need to see one of these in the flesh, Jim - and be able to stoop very low to get stuff in the back.
The SD1 estate was quite something though - dead flat roof line, like Volvo - but they only made two or three.

I'd love to Chris but that low tailgate worries me... The last time I had a tailgate not ride as high as I thought I gashed my head wide open on it...
And I never even realised there was an SD1 estate... That should have definitely gone into production... Yet another opportunity lost

Re: JLR selling off a collection
You're right, Jim, BL really missed a trick with this, and left it all to Volvo. More than likely internal competition with the Triumph 2.5 estate was more to do with it. It was fear of damage to both Triumph and Jaguar sales that ended up with Rover only just managing to get their V8 into the SD1. Early cars (from 1976) came with Triumph's 2.3 and 2.6 6-cylinder engines, and later the 2.0 four-pot O-series 'Princess' engine. Finally, Rover conceded that dumbing down the SD1 engine- and trim-wise was a mistake, and let King and Bache have their way: in went the V8, then injection, then some of proper trim that it was always meant to have. By the end, in 1986, there was both rocket performance (the Vitesse, tuned even further for the police) and a touch of luxury (with the Vanden Plas).
Where things were heading was here - David Bache's P8 - a V8 4-litre, known briefly as the Rover 4000. It was never built.

Re: JLR selling off a collection
That is sad Chris, the SD1 estate really looks good... What a crying shame
The P8 is a looker too... When I first saw it I instantly thought Jensen Interceptor Did Bache design the Jensen?
Presumably the P8 engine was a larger version of the P6 3.5 V8? Or was it an entirely new engine?

Re: JLR selling off a collection
Very interesting thanks for posting up James. Now if no one else is interested, and there is no reserve, then at least one of the items in particular should be worth a punt. If my experience last summer is anything to go by then someone is going to pay over the odds for the one I would select from the bunch. Let’s hope it’s not me

It's going to be interesting to see what they all fetch. Brightwell's usually set a high reserve which is why they only have a 65% success rate. With a few exceptions this auctions full of old tat that has sat around for years and need a good deal of work to get them ready for the road never mind to show.
There should be some cheap motors here, I doubt there will be.

Cult classic low-mileage Allegro Estate in sought after brown
I'd far rather have the brown SD1 there, in fact same colour as one of the two I owned, cheapest car to run that I've ever had, 8p/mile fuel, 3p/mile everything else.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if some of the "toy" cars and Model Aeroplanes sell for more than the real cars.
