Re: Windscreen with sensors
Glad its all sorted. Good information from givemeabreak. Thank you. I got one replaced about 5 years ago. Didn't even bother looking at the sensors. Just got Mr Windscreen to fit a new basic screen as it was a cash job. The old sensors went away with the old screen. I don't even know if they were working and didn't care. The car was for a young driver but its still in everyday use. City commuting all week in Dublin. Back to the west coast for socialising every weekend. Heading for 300,000 miles and now almost 16 years old. Brake pads, Tyres, oil and filters is all it ever needed.

The sensors were working on mine but not the way I would have wanted anyway. Automatic lights didn't really come on until it was almost dark and the automatic wipers were either off or extremely fast. Now the lights come on with the ignition lights and if I put the wipers on automatic they sweep every 10 seconds plus the ordinary screen was €65.00 cheaper. I used Mr Windscreen in Navan, Matt's a really nice guy, he even had a selection of rear view mirrors and I got a free mirror from a Renault into the €190.00.

A glass claim*** is* a claim and so needs** to be declared whenever a new insurer asks about your claims history, unless they tell you otherwise.
* according to one of the insurance gurus on Moneysavingexpert forums
** glass claims aren't recorded in the industry-wide database but may be shared between linked insurers so may come back to bite you on the bum if in the future you move to an insurer with access to that data
*** a non-claim incident should also be declared but.....

Re: Windscreen with sensors
I'm not saying it isn't a claim - I'm saying it does not (for me and any insurer I have used) affect my no claims discount.
Fact: I've gone through this lots of times - I have repeatedly confirmed with any insurer when taking out a policy about windscreen cover and NONE of them are interested. So I am speaking from my personal experience and it has made not one jot of difference.
None of my windscreen replacements were the results of any accidents - they were my choice due to badly pitted or worn glass. I've had about 3 done to date. Each time I have rang my insurer up and had it done without quibble - AND confirmed that it will not affect my NCD (which is protected anyway). As any claim is made by the windscreen replacement company with my insurer directly - it is all recorded by them.
As far as I am concerned it is on their records and is for them to do with as they wish. I have never been asked to declare a windscreen replacement beforer and again, I have verbally informed insurers to confirm this and been told they are not interested.

Re: Windscreen with sensors
Well all I can say is that my experience is different. At my most recent renewal I was repeatedly asked to declare any claims and that this should include glass
Paul-R wrote: 01 Aug 2017, 21:35Not quite correct I'm afraid. It is a claim but usually does not affect your no-claims discount.elma wrote: 30 Jul 2017, 00:32Will getting a screen through insurance affect it? Over here it doesn't count as a claim...I'm afraid it does need to be declared and, while it won't affect your NCD it quite likely will affect your premium.
I know; I had my rear screen replaced in February on the C5 X7 and I had to search long and hard for a decent price for my insurance in May. And each time I had to declare the screen replacement on my query.

Re: Windscreen with sensors
I only put in my three ha'pence worth as I had a cracked windscreen and was tapping the collective wisdom of the Moneysavingexpert insurance and motoring forums in order to decide whether or not to claim on the insurance. Consensus seems to be:GiveMeABreak wrote: 31 Jan 2018, 17:24 I'm not saying it isn't a claim - I'm saying it does not (for me and any insurer I have used) affect my no claims discount.

1) glass claim won't affect your NCD
2) glass claims can affect your underlying premium but are unlikely to unless you have an unusually high number of such claims. (I've had one company a few years ago tell me "we don't rate on glass claims". When I had the recent crack I tried some "dummy" online quotes with and without the glass claim declared and it made no difference to the quotes.)
3) an insurer could cancel your policy for failure to disclose a glass claim at inception. (As you say, you don't need to tell your current insurer as they know via the glass company)
