Well I think I am on fairly safe ground now Jim to have my own guess! I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of these

That looks about right Neil :)

As I say, not my kind of bike but I see from a Giggle search that they are sought-after and command very good prices... Anything up to £450 for a good 'un!!!

It's a very good name for a touring bike too... Literally it translates to 'backpacker' or 'hiker' in French but in cycling language it loosely translates to mean a 'cycling tourist'... In cycle racing it means one who is an all-rounder endurance cyclist or a 'jack-of-all-trades' as distinct from say, a climber or a sprinter...

So, on that basis the Salmson is perhaps a tourer or perhaps more of a Grand Tourer :)

It certainly is a very grand and attractive motor car, especially in that lovely blue 8-)

Well unless you are an avid wikipedia reader, or are well-travelled its unlikely that you will have come across or seen this variant.

So I'm not after the pure straight of the top of your head knowledge. All methods are valid, but is there enough information to research the answer from this first shot?

If not and the process drags, i will reveal more in "catchphrase" style, but knowing the answer myself there are enough style clues there to get it with just a little digging.

Come on folks does no one remember the fine lines of early 1960's car design? Or internet search a fully displayed makers badge?

Getting very warm Van :!:

The grille is very distinctive of the heritage from which the car sprang, and the logo is an S. Around 68.000 were made in the 1960's. The firm also produced a fair few of these.

You learn something new every day.

Sección Industrial Amasadoras Mecánicas.....
....was better known as SIAM. An Argentinian manufacturing company.

The car in question was a Siam Di Tella:

From Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siam_Di_Tella
"A license obtained from the British Motor Corporation led to the Siam di Tella 1500; based on the British BMC Farina series of the late 1950s. The car followed the specifications of the BMC car in most respects, but was fitted with a low compression version of the 1489 cc B-Series engine with a single carburettor (the option of twin carburettors was offered, but very rarely specified). The vehicle became very popular among taxi drivers in Buenos Aires due to its spacious interior and its fuel economy compared to the US-derived vehicles previously popular as taxis."
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

That's the one! All sprang from Ken Bruce playing Wet Wet Wet the other day. The US video for the song posted up on the PE Jukebox showed the Wets cruising round in, as Van nicely put it, a "Farina Oxbridge", bit of wiki-ing and out pops this variation from Argentina....

Gosh, never even heard to those but a very stylish car and scooter even though I'm no fan of scooters...

Pregnant sewing machines we used to call them back in the day...

You can't ride a sewing machine . . . . ?

Love one of those Di Tellas though - just for the fun of turning up at a meeting of the Austin Counties Car Club (or whatever it's called). :-D

Don't like these sitting around for long, gathering dust, its always nice to have a decent flow so a few hints to knock it off.

So, by any definition its got to be a "sports car".
The main countries to embrace the "sports car" are Britain, Italy and Germany.
From the look alone what is the country to plump for?
Which decade(s) is that style likely to spring from?

Have a look at these quizzes bearing in mind the answers to the above. They are all the same 9 pictures to click on and correctly identify given the make and model.

Our little white whatsthisthen? appears in the middle row left of the appropriate quiz!
