As I say, not my kind of bike but I see from a Giggle search that they are sought-after and command very good prices... Anything up to £450 for a good 'un!!!

It's a very good name for a touring bike too... Literally it translates to 'backpacker' or 'hiker' in French but in cycling language it loosely translates to mean a 'cycling tourist'... In cycle racing it means one who is an all-rounder endurance cyclist or a 'jack-of-all-trades' as distinct from say, a climber or a sprinter...

So, on that basis the Salmson is perhaps a tourer or perhaps more of a Grand Tourer

It certainly is a very grand and attractive motor car, especially in that lovely blue

Well unless you are an avid wikipedia reader, or are well-travelled its unlikely that you will have come across or seen this variant.

So I'm not after the pure straight of the top of your head knowledge. All methods are valid, but is there enough information to research the answer from this first shot?

If not and the process drags, i will reveal more in "catchphrase" style, but knowing the answer myself there are enough style clues there to get it with just a little digging.

Has a very Farina Oxbridge made under licence somewhere not associated with motor manufacture look about it.

The grille is very distinctive of the heritage from which the car sprang, and the logo is an S. Around 68.000 were made in the 1960's. The firm also produced a fair few of these.

The car in question was a Siam Di Tella:

That's the one! All sprang from Ken Bruce playing Wet Wet Wet the other day. The US video for the song posted up on the PE Jukebox showed the Wets cruising round in, as Van nicely put it, a "Farina Oxbridge", bit of wiki-ing and out pops this variation from Argentina....
