Hi guys. Really enjoying my 2009 x7. Just wanted to double check I read the service book properly as it says the 136 bhp 2.0 hdi engine oil n filter are changed every 20,000 miles. Seems a long interval to me?
Also wanted to double check which oil to use as I've been given various different types which have slightly different spec.

Re: X7 service intervals
I half that with mine. As soon as I got it I used a flush, thereafter I just use Total oil of the correct grade.
Air filter/fuel filter I leave for the full interval.

Have a squiz at the Wiki where I replicated the PSA recommended oils - so you will have the DW12TED4 engine.
https://frenchcarforum.co.uk/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
As you have a Particulate filter system you need low SAPS specification oil. Have a look at the types of oil and the climate to which they are suited for the protection they offer, then scroll down to the DW engine section and you can see the recommended oil for your car (refer back to the temperate chart in the first diagram),
It's 20k servicing on these engines in normal conditions, or 12.5k in harsh conditions - but you always have the option to do an intermediate oil service of course for peace of mind.

Re: X7 service intervals
Oil is (relatively) cheap, engines are expensive. I do oil changes at 10k / annually. I use the proper Total oil from NielsenCDG http://nielsencdg.co.uk/ but other cheap outlets are available - OpieOils, etc.
Run your car's details through one of the oil advisor sites to find what's recommended by the manufacturers:
http://total-gbr.lubricantadvisor.com/
https://applications.castrol.com/oilsel ... b/c/search
http://www.mobil.co.uk/UK-English-LCW/c ... h-oil.aspx
Other lubricant advisors are available from other manufacturers.

Re: X7 service intervals
cheers guys much appreciated I agree that oil is cheap and replacing an engine is expensive so I'll change it every 10k for peace of mind.

Re: X7 service intervals
Oil is cheap? Mmmm, just had a mini service on mine (change oil/filter, check levels). Independent Citroen garage. Charge for 5¼ litres of oil was €99 + VAT (i.e. €119). Filter was €16 + VAT, or €19. Labour was extra (€44).
Converted to £UK the total for the oil plus filter was £123, labour £39. I've told him to whistle (in French - 'aller et siffler') and am waiting for his reply. I have seen the identical oil advertised here in France at €8.50 a litre.
The engine is 2,0litre 163, FAP.
