AX Water pump ?

Unread post by Robbie »

My wife came home in her car the other day (P reg AX Petrol 1.1) and said she thought there was something wrong with it, this usually means it's a right off. However the problem she said was the heater was only blowing cold air out, I checked under the car to see water pouring out onto the drive. Opening the bonnet I could see where the water was coming from straight away, the top hose was split, I fitted a new one and topped up the water but still after leaving it to tick over for a while there was still only cold air coming from the heater, no water leak any where that I could see but then the over heating warning light came on on the dash (there is no gauge). Does this mean the water isn't being pumped round therefore needs a new water pump?

Sounds like an airlock!
Did you bleed the system after topping up the water?

You have to use a header tank for the AX models or make something made up to act as a header tank. When this is done the bleed valves have to be released in order. It is explained in the haynes manual if you do not have a copy I will send the details to you...let us know!

I don't have a copy of Haynes for the AX so if you could explain how to do it I'd be grateful. Meanwhile I'll try and get one.
Thanks Robbie.
