Can anyone recommend a good trolley Jack and axial stands ?

The car is a Citroen C5 estate 2003.

There are so many on eBay, some at bargain prices, but first hand recommendation is worth everything : )

I only repair my own car, and that is normally infrequently as we do about 1000 miles a year.

I have both but they are many years old and a bit Mickey Mouse : )

You're not going to beat this really, and Halfords stuff is generally pretty good quality. It's not the best, but it's more than acceptable.

Every so often Aldi and Lidl do car bits. I have a set of Lidl axle stands that are rated to 2 tonnes, and (when they are not in use) the 'legs' fold in (they cannot do this when in use). I cannot speak for the trolley jacks, but I have seen bottle jacks in Lidls recently.

My Lidl jack has done sterling service - had it for years now. I suspect you bought it for me! My stands are Halfords like the ones in the deal I posted, and I've had them more than 10 years now. I don't think the discounted boxed set of bits from Halfords can be beaten at the moment.

Mine is fine. My bro has a couple, they're fine. Every single one of my Lidl or Aldi tools has lasted far better than any of the more "known" makes I've had over the years. Think I've still got them all!

You shouldn't have your head under there without a stand in place anyway, whoever your jack is made by!..

That is a really good deal for the Halfords stuff actually...might need to pop round for that.

Very little I actually use Halfords for these days, but I do have to admit that I swear by their tools.

Only ever had one failure, and that was a 3/8" ratchet that had been subjected to me jumping several times on an 8' breaker bar. They replaced it on the spot without batting an eyelid.

I would really like to know who the OEM is for their tools actually.

I've been using Halfords jacks and stands for donkey's years and in my opinion they are unbeatable on both value and functionality - as are the vast majority of Halfords tools...

I agree with everyone re Halfords stuff - for the money its top stuff. The only problem you may have is the trolley jack can be a bit high at its starting point and can be difficult to get under some cars. But a low entry trolley jack will be expensive so its just a case of being tight and getting by.

Mine just goes under a Pug 207 and that's a pretty stern test

I have exactly that Halfords trolley jack (by the look of it), and in 30+ years all it's needed is a couple of oil top-ups, and new O-ring on the plunger.

I have acquired a second one recently (not Halfords) which is "low profile" and more compact, with a minimum height of 85mm (the older Halfords one needs 130mm).

Saturday morning service diy jacks are pretty good now for the money. I prefer a proper jack though.

I stall have my original Bradbury jack I bought in about 1965, cost more than a weeks wages then, only rated at 30cwt but very hefty compared with modern ones. I bought a couple at Trago Mills probably 25 years or more ago and at around £25, I use them for all my car work and they are still going strong. Light enough to lift up onto the ramp but I have lifted my sons Ford Ranger up with them.

I've got three jacks, all modern tat really including the bigger one which is a lookalike to the Clarke one pictured above.

If I was buying now I'd be looking for an old Epco or Bradbury, like some of these:
