Age brings about good 'allrounder' status, uphil speed increases but downhill decreases as bones dont bend so easy! ;) I'm not a competitive rider, but i ride for passion, absolutely love it, the competetive aspect pushed my love of sailing a bit much, the enjoyment of popping out for a quick sail went, determined not to do that with bikes! A few good buddies do the sportives and endurance racing, there nutters! :D
If your on Facebook jim have a look for Shed Cycle Service Cornwall, most the work pops up there, wide variety of bikes, will be 4th year January officially for the shed, shops and mates rates before hand! ;)
I had a go on a pedal assist cargo bike in Plymouth a while back when up on a course, Very bizarre, more so that the front wheel was 6ft up the bike from the bars! Could certainly see the prospective usage for them in cities! Cargo couriers etc.
After All, I am the Cornish one!

Tim, I shall look up that on Facebook ;) reckon we have a lot in common when it comes to cycling... I too am passionate about it... With Roger (Rhothgar) of this parish we have quite a cycling community going on here...

We all ought to go for a ride together sometime ;)

Up the hill you mean ? With a paltry 47kW ? The torque is really rather good though in the 15-40mph range for the size of car, at 185Nm. I reckon if I stomp on the pedal between 15-40 it gets up and goes quicker than my Xantia V6 for the first 2-3 seconds - unless the Xantia is already in a really low gear revving over 4000 ready to go.

I've surprised and annoyed a lot of cars in the traffic light grand prix in the tiny Ion - if you try to race from a dead stop side by side you often won't win because the 0-15 acceleration is so slow (artificially limited) so you end up behind until about 20mph where it surges ahead, but if its a situation where you can get rolling a bit before the race is really on, like being behind someone who is initially a bit slow to get moving at the green light but then tries to floor it to zoom away from you a couple of seconds later - as many do - it will keep up with most of these people with ease and the instant throttle response means I can keep the same distance behind them pretty much no matter what they do. At least up to about 30mph.

Spotted a black Tesla Model X in Hamilton last night...... charging beside my Ion.

Rather hilarious the size comparison - the biggest SUV EV out there beside probably the smallest 5 door EV ever made...

Before anyone wonders why I'm parked so badly, the charge port is on the left side, so I would normally park in the space the Tesla was occupying for the cable to reach comfortably. If I park neatly in the park I was in the cable won't reach! #-o

The Tesla was plugged into the AC socket which meant I could use the DC Chademo socket at the same time, which is fortunate as the owner was nowhere to be seen the whole time I was there...

Tell that to a cyclist and they'll be jealous ;) We develop about 250W peak and cruise around 125W - That's my power output anyway...

It just shows how obscenely huge the Tesla thing is... Nobody needs, for any reason, such a large car as that; it's nothing more than a big boy's pissing contest

'Mine's bigger than your so there!'

Tesla owners need to get a life

Your little Ion is far more sensible and desirable Simon... I love that little car :-D

All cars have got Larger and larger as they develop, the 'mini' is the classic Example, its not all that much smaller than the Xantia!

A red Tesla X - with Reg V1 CAH - so presumably belongs to one of the local clergy; who are obviously underpaid, self deprecating types....

Spot a couple of Leafs every day, I presume they live on our little estate somewhere.

Spotted a Model S camped at my nearest rapid charger - when I needed to use it to get home...

Luckily in the couple of minutes that I was parked a few spaces away contemplating what to do if I had a long wait he packed up and left!
