Jim did a sterling job sorting out my blower motor and it was very much appreciated as I was at my wits' end with the car for various reasons.
Reading through numerous posts previously in an attempt to try and have a go at sorting the issue myself, I thought that this also caused issues with the heated rear screen.
However, it seems it is not connected.
First question may appear stupid but it's not worked for so long I cannot remember how it should.
When you press the HRW button on a non-Climate Xantia S1, should the button click in and stay in or does it just press in and return to its starting position but light the light?
I ask because that ain't happening!
Next, I was driving along yesterday and was feeling the relays. What I believe is the sunroof relay (according to the workshop manual) is red hot to the touch?
Looking at the wiring diagram for the HRW, it links with the heated mirrors. Now! This year both mirrors have been smashed, one I suspect by a bus driving down my road and the other by a careless employee at our warehouse . The driver's side glass is broken and I was wondering if the current for the HRW travels through this and if broken, is it preventing the HRW from working?
Thanks in anticipation. I mustn't get so wound up by the ongoing niggling issues.
EDIT:
Just wondering about something else.
If I take the fuse out and there is NO power on either side, can I simply create jumper using a paperclip between that circuit and another to temporarily test if the system is working e.g. take another fuse out that has power on the same ignition switch position and span across to Fuse 23 with a paperclip?

Yes, switch is 'momentary' and on a press it should light up... The switch start a timer relay to supply power to the heated rear screen for around 15 minutes.
Don't overlook the fact the window element itself may be open-circuit or the wires going to it via the tailgate concertinas may be broken and open-circuit...
NO!!! Unless you intimately know exactly what you are doing...
Too risky...

Oh yea of little faith Jim! NO! You're right actually.
My train of thought is this:-
1. Find a fuse with the same rating as the HRW.
2. Remove fuse and check for voltage when key in M position. (Let's assume now working blowing fuse)/
3. If 12 volts, ensure accessory fed by fuse is off and use paperclip as jumper between that and the HRW fuse.
Does that make sense? I wouldn't be putting double the load on the wiring because other accessory would be off and test would be momentary i.e. does HRW light illuminate?

Tell you what Roger, I can't follow our train at the moment as I've just got home from a brain-draining day at work
But... Find me a bike suitable for L'Eroica, bring it down to me and I'll fix your heated rear window

HRW (and heated mirrors) might well only function with engine running, and not just with IGN sw on.
You do need an electrician on this, not haphazard jumpers between circuits.

Totally agreed
Roger, the offer is open. I'm around this weekend and not planning much ahead of a half marathon next weekend. Get an appointment in quick before I plan something... Available all but Saturday morning at this time

Chap up the road from me has a 'vintage' road bike out on his drive for sale jim, would need to stop and have a proper look at it to check, but could be a back up plan! Stripped a customer bike down for dipping and painting ahead of this years eroica!

What is it exactly? Do you know? I can check it over and see if it's worthwhile for Jim. He has short legs like me so he needs a 21.5 -22.5" steel frame max.

If any of your plans change this weekend Jim, remember there is this 211km Audax I was talking about on Saturday. Weather looks good. 4 degrees with windchill down to 1 degreeC.

Sadly, I'm running this weekend Roger
I do hope to be out on my bike at some time over the weekend as dry cold doesn't bother me except for my bloody hands and the dread Reynauld's
Anyway, if I don't ride regularly I get all miserable and suffer withdrawal symptoms
I'm still searching for a pair of gloves that will keep my hands warm when the mercury hovers around freezing - so far, no real success...

Have you tried the sealskins gloves jim? I have a pair of silk liners too for the chilly days on my normal l full finger gloves, the sealskins are a bit thick and cumbersome for off road riding! That and my hands get hellish hot in them!
