Probably a replica or custom EV conversion of something that looks similar. As far as I know bar a couple that were given to museums and universities in the US in a non functional state (critical parts deliberately removed) they were all crushed!

Pity you don't have a dash cam that would have captured a picture of it ?

I've caught a few rare cars on my dashcam now including a 2CV and a GSA, so it is just as useful for car spotting as it is for evidence in accidents. :)

I had to look one up on the mighty Google as never heard of them, you can certainly see where honda got their inspiration from!

An article about the EV-1 and how it stacks up compared to the EV's of 2013 (when the article was written) and the Gen II does surprisingly well. It was roughly a decade ahead of its time, with the main drawback being the lack of any sort of DC rapid charging - todays Chademo and CCS DC rapid charging systems weren't even invented at the time much less rolled out.

I certainly don't think it can have been a real EV1, from what I recall there are about 40 left, and last time I did any research the only "official" working example was at the Smithsonian.

Having looked at some photos again, I really can't see what else it can have been, so I have to assume replica.

Dash cam wouldn't have helped as I was on foot, by the time I'd got my phone out my pocket it had vanished round the corner.

It really was well ahead of its time, and it's sad that GM didn't realise the value of what they had (what's the saying? They know the cost of everything but the value of nothing). I might even go so far as to say it was the first *modern* electric car. Held back by the battery technology of the day and lack of any form of rapid charging for the most part.

I used to speak on another forum where there were two people who leased them at the time. They both loved the cars and swore that it was the way things would look in the future. They both own Tesla's now I believe.

The Smithsonian stuff is here:

I've been in there and seen it in the flesh.

The overall profile is reminiscent of some Citroen's, yes, including the SM, although only in general shape. The covered rear wheel is very Citroen like too although I'm sure Citroen weren't the only ones to use that...

Hopefully not...or they'll come up with some contrived way to make it into a giant joke no doubt for the sake of a cheap laugh.

The world's most boring picture...its a good effort I think

No sightings of the elusive TESLA using the "Destination" chargers at Wetherby on Sunday :-D (behind the Swan and Talbot)

and what is a destination charger....I'll let TESLA explain.....
https://www.tesla.com/en_GB/destination-charging

Pull Up, Plug In and Relax
Convenient charging at hotels, restaurants and shopping centers

Wherever the journey takes you, there is a large and growing network of accessible locations to keep your vehicle charged. Find Destination Charging sites at places you will want to stay for several hours or overnight. Just pull up, plug in to a Tesla Wall Connector and enjoy your stay.
