Re: Electric cars/vans/bikes-Conversions/Secondhand..etc
One big concern of mine is as the charging cables and their connectors wear and become damaged, which they surely will, there will be scope for all kinds of dangerous bodgery and patching up...
A worn connector and a frayed cable is a great fire risk with all that potential current flowing...
Will charging cable/equipment condition be part of an EV MOT I wonder... It certainly should be.

My uncle Alan is a retired Industrial Spark. He tells me there are two types of electrician. Good ones and dead ones.

I'm staggered that unskilled drivers will be permitted to operate such powerful devices and handle their connecting cables...
Only those highly qualified and certified are allowed to touch 240V house wiring but it seems any old fool will be able to handle the chargers...
This seems to me like a perfect recipe for some spectacular disasters...
Electricity and idiots generally do not mix very well...
Or are they going to receive appropriate training before they're permitted to use them?
Ssssh Jim, you're spoiling the gumments next demonising plot to prop up their house of cards economy. Wait until we've all spent our life-savings on electrickery upgrades before exposing it as the next mass-extinction event, forcing us to switch to a cleaner greener (nuclear?).

Yes, but have you considered the risk of scalding?

Don't know if any of you are motorbike riders (I'm not!) but thought this might interest. It's two years old as well!

Re: Electric cars/vans/bikes-Conversions/Secondhand..etc
I was - I had a CBR600 and later a 900RR Fireblade, a fast bike. I'd have loved something like that when I was brave enough to use it. The lack of noise would put me off slightly - not for the reasons he states, but because it's a very good guide to hear exactly what the engine/wheels/gears are doing especially on twisty bits. It needs some kind of torque-limiter at low-mid output for me, or it sounds (and looks) like it's a bit of a handful in low-mid speed twisties with the rear spinning up, which is all well and good if you want it to, or are having fun, but for going quick, or having it surprise you, is not a good thing at all. Google "motorcycle highside" and you'll see why this concerns me.
One would presume you'd get used to it, or they've moderated it somewhat by now

They've been racing electric bikes (TT Zero) at the Isle of Man since 2010. Can't wait to experience one myself.
ETA: And what about flying, following the success of Solar Impulse?
There's the Airbus E-Fan being developed.
EasyJet partnered with Wright Electric last month to develop short-haul airliners, hoping to be in service within 10 years.

Re: Electric cars/vans/bikes-Conversions/Secondhand..etc
Where are the batteries carried on an electric motorbike? They need to be low-down to maintain a low C of G so they can't really go where the petrol tank traditionally lived...
