Re: Stickies little Daffodil
Headlamp adjusters/retainers fixed.......used parts from a Xantia headlamp as the AX ones are Nfp.............
You can see the bodge used in the lower image , the others were worse and I think the headlamps would of fallen out if I had braked sharply

Re: Stickies little Daffodil
That Xantia did not die in vain Alasdair but who'd have thought it would come to the assistance of an AX! Wonderful

I know....it has also supplied all the missing (degraded rubber) grommets under the car that I removed to do the waxing and a single seat runner securing screw to fix the wobbly drivers seat

Re: Stickies little Daffodil
After just reading about a guy who wants to remove a spare wheel and carrier to save weight, I read this post where Alasdair is worried about £2 and then adds so much weight I don't know if he'll be able to afford the fuel!

I like the ax. I had one years ago, a 1.5d. It was surprisingly comfy for me, a big guy, and went forever on a tank of derv, which wasnt a lot!

I love the AX too.. I had a Series 1 AX11TGE in the late 90s and it was a hoot.. The only things that ever ailed it was the usual TU head gasket oil leak, front calipers binding and a failed ignition coil...
Oh, and the gearchange mechanism falling apart whilst on the move... That was a known issue on the early ones and caused by a rollpin falling out of the selector assembly... When mine let go I was able to find the rollpin on the road, tap it home and continue my journey... Considering it happened at about 50mph when changing up into 4th I was jolly lucky to find the pin on the road!
It's not a problem that will happen to yours Alasdair as the whole lot was modified for the later ones...
The Saxo retains the ethos and all the good qualities of an AX and has proved a worthy successor but the AX is still the one to have from choice...

Re: Stickies little Daffodil
I worked with a guy who had series 1 GT and it went on for ever. He had it for about ten years and it still looked good with over 150,000 on the clock.
I had a 2cv and went to a visa diesel ‘cos I thought the AX felt flimsy, but later realised how well they lasted.
A rare site on the road now!

Re: Stickies little Daffodil
I thought they were flimsy too It was how the doors on the S1 shut with a clang rather than a clunk that used to get me!!! How wrong we were, they were actually incredibly tough. Citroen knew where to pare away metal where it wasn't necessary... Lots of plastic as I recall too...
Good AX GTs now go for silly money...
