Now try this: what do Life on Mars & Promised Land have in common?

Well I know Rick Wakeman played on Life on Mars, and is also doing a tour of his "Piano Portraits" which should be good. and the link with Norfolk as well in the lyric..."From Ibiza to the Norfolk broads"....

Lobbed this up a few pages ago....on the Pickled Egg Election Selection thread.

As for the Promised Land....there is a link with Rick Wakeman and the Strawbs....close?

I didn't mean to leave it this long BUT this is the 3rd attempt, previously I nearly got to the end - & the whole text just disappeared when I hit "return" or whatever!

That Rick Wakeman link is brilliant: I just love obscure/oblique! BUT, it's not the answer.

Chuck Berry's "Promised Land" opens with "Left my home in Norfolk . . . . " To the best of my knowledge That & "Life on Mars" are the only songs to reference a place called Norfolk

Well yes I do........Norfolk's Lost Railways, loads of pictures

another discovery from the treasure trove that is Derelict Places-Documenting Decay

A walk along an old railway line can be fascinating if you know what you are looking for!

That's brought back memories Neil :) I have walked a lot of that line in the past and spent a lot of time looking around Norwich City station. I remain a facebook friend of the Norwich City Preservation Group.

I love exploring disused railways and on new bike rides I look out for remains and then go and research them thoroughly ;) A most enjoyable pastime :)

Hunstanton is the only village in Norfolk to face west. Best place to view the sunsets, also plenty of restaurants on the coast overlooking the beach and sunset.

Lowestoft is the most east place in the UK. If your an early riser you can view the sunrise.

Thats the spirit welcome to posting on the Off-topic Chat Lounge. If you have scanned this thread you will see that the faithful often stray off topic! Hunstanton got a mention here couple of pages back.

Plenty of other topics to join in with here, even if your car(s) is (are) running like a dream!

617 Squadron, is now based at RAF Marham in Norfolk.

Must admit I got two of my holidays mixed up.....Lincoln and Norfolk. See I thought I recalled RAF Scampton where Squadron X ,or 617 as it was to become. from my Norfolk holiday. Schoolboy error; It was of course my Lincoln holiday! Still managed to dredge up a link to save the day :-D

Hmm Scampton on top of a hill , Marham in Norfolk, what's a hill, OK there are a couple but not many.

I've just read the thread most interesting, I've just downloaded the Picture of the Type 84 radar because I'm making a model of it. Well I've spent many many hours in that building working on it. Even up on the top between the legs of the SSR 750 radar mounted on the top of the T84...

As for Potter heigham bridge it's very familiar to me above and below. Normally at the beginning of June is the 3rd toughest mass participation event in the UK, The Three Rivers Race, around 100 sailing boats having 24 hours to travel 50miles under 3 bridges. I've competed many times.
To give you a flavour of that two videos one at ludham bridge which they don't go under, I'm in that video somewhere. The other at Potter bridge a spectator sport there..

The 60th Race will now take place 5th 6th June 2021, now this year's has been cancelled..
