Peugeot 3008 Manual - Possible Clutch Slip or Traction Control Problem?

Unread post by Citroen154 »

Hi,
I would like your help if possible please,
My 2011 Peugeot 3008 1.6 HDi has a problem which I am struggling to diagnose.
If you drove the car, you would initially think that there is no problem with it, there is no signs of clutch slip, even when accelerating hard in low gears.
However, if you are in 6th gear ( sometimes 5th ) at anything from around 55mph or above, and accelerate hard the revs rise initially incommensurate with the increase in speed (almost as if slipping) and then it settles and accelerates.

My understanding of a slipping clutch is that it is worst in lower gears and changing up reduces the effect, but this appears to be the exact opposite.
There are no fault codes or warning lights, so has anyone come across this before of have any ideas please ?

I am thinking that it must be the clutch, as there appears to be no other explanation, but my worst nightmare is that I pay the price of having it replaced and that doesn't fix the problem.

Is this a plain manual gearbox or is it semi automatic?

It's a manual.

In my experience, a slipping clutch shows up first in the high gears. This is because you can more readily use full engine torque in higher gears than lower gears.

I can't think of anything else that would give the symptoms that you describe.

Thanks, makes sense I suppose, I'm thinking of my experience from many years ago, way before the sort of power and torque that's available now.
Way before the need for DMFs.

It sounds like clutch. That was the normal test for clutch wear. Highest gear on a slight incline and apply the power smartly without choking it.

As a matter of interest what mileage has the car done? This doesn't change the diagnosis, just curious!
