Re: P.E.Jukebox-Post a track make the link!

So the obvious link to to 'Deacon Blue'... of which one of their most popular hits was 'Real Gone Kid', apparently written by Ricky Ross after the lead singer saw a Maria Mckee performance on stage, who was ex 'Lone Justice' singer with whom Deacon Blue opened for. So Maria Mckee, 'Show Me Heaven', which is also a place on Earth according to another one of my 80s favourites:

The Songwriters for Heaven is a Place on Earth are Rick Nowels and Ellen Shipley.

Here's one of Nowels other compostions with Gregg Alexander, and unlike the New Radicals and this particular song, Nowels is a many hit wonder writing and producing for loads of artists, as is Alexander the former New Radicals "front-man".

Need to work this one in today, heard in the Dales Centre at Stanhope, County Durham.

So how do we get from the New Radicals "You get what you give" to "Songbird" by Eva Cassidy?

It's a Christine McVie song, the original is on the Rumours Album by Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks being part of that group, and of course Stevie has recorded several songs written by Rick Nowels

So we'll go from "You Get What You Give" to "Rooms on Fire" by Stevie Nicks (both co-written by Rick Nowels)

Then it's a simple link via Fleetwood Mac to Eva Cassidy's recording of Christine McVie's Songbird

Done and dusted!

..and this is what is known as a reverse link. I let Stevie Nicks autoplay on, and couldn't leave this one out

So Eva Cassidy-singing a Christine Mcvie song, back to Fleetwood Mac, back to Stevie Nicks and this

Love the video and the song so I'm going to excuse myself!

No problem Marc, pleased you liked my choices!

Gold Dust Woman could take us in all sorts of directions, (including the entire Fleetwood Mac et al catalogue), so what to plump for? First thing which came to mind...Golden Earring- Radar Love of course, Spandau Ballet etc but I'm going for Ventura Highway quite a nice little driving ditty........Cause the free wind is blowing in my hair...etc.

Using the old "one-two" combination link technique...
One.... "Sister Golden Hair"

followed up quickly with
Two....

Nothing not to like about that one, particularly playing in your open top sports car on the actual Ventura Highway! Yes...something like this....

The only America song I had heard was "Horse With No Name" and then only in supermarkets (Woolies in the eighties).
For ages thought it was Neil Young and could never find it

How about a horse with a name.....

"Don't wanna weep for you
Don't wanna know
I'm blind and tortured
The white horses flow
Memories fire
The rhythms fall slow
Black beauty I love you so...."

Like Chestnut Mare Steve, heard it before, didn't know who did it. Sounds like it was used on an Ad or a TV theme and I very nearly posted Jackie Lee singing the theme to "White Horses" but strictly speaking its "Bad Night at the Whiskey" that is the track to link to so...

From Bad Night to Black Night.....and surprise surprise one of my favourites makes it in again!

Tremendous laying down of a rhythm with bass and drums, even if accused of a bit of riff-nicking

Regards Neil

PS....and the riff-nicking listen to this
