Making a link from Homeward bound the first obvious one is of course Widnes Railway Station.

Not surprisingly Widnes hasn't featured in many well known tunes. Elvis Costello, and Belle and Sebastian have recorded songs with Widnes in the Lyrics.. "Stars of track and Field" and "Watch Your Step" respectively.

The second source of a Link would be Kathy Chitty the homeward bounding to whom Paul Simon was writing about.

She also appears in "Kathy's Song", and "America"

On the whole I think I'll put up Elvis Costello
"They say it's good for business
From Singapore to Widnes"

Ok a bit of a weak link, but hey ho - Stiff Records and Elvis Costello..., besides it's a catchy tune and she's a bit wacky!
Lene Lovich

Half Bosnian, half British, Lili-Marlene Premilovich was born in Detroit but raised in Hull. When she was 29, DJ and journalist Charlie Gillett heard her covering I Think We’re Alone Now (the very same song that became a hit for Tiffany years later) he signed it to his Oval imprint and licensed it to Stiff. Gillett certainly had an ear for the Stiff sound, having had a major hand in bringing both Ian Dury and Elvis Costello to the public’s attention though his Capital Radio show.

I did consider Chive Talkin' by The Bee Gees :rofl2:

But will settle for that well known gent named after some useful culinary plants......... Herbie Hancock and Rockit :-D

There are rules but only applied loosely (or not at all in some cases).

I was hoping to make it easier for Steve to lob up some of his Carl Orff with a "bridging sort of entry" seeing as a direct link without being ludicrously obscure ain't that easy with Carl.

Did think from Elvis Costello we could have gone to his duets with Bruce Spingsteen then onto Springsteen's song Badlands and hence onto the Badlands theme which is Gassenhauer by Carl Orff..

The moving finger has moved on now, so further creativity may be needed.

Participation is the key though Marc.....keep pitching in! Its easy as you can see! Lene Lovitch et al, Stiffs Greatest Stiffs tour all part of my formative musical education!

And it was indeed Gassenhour :)

Oddly enough first encountered in "Badlands"

Took me years to find what it was.

Come on then lets try to work in Gassenhauer with a credible or even incredible attempt at a link :-D
