C5 2.0hdi 54 plate DPF removal

Unread post by danny_c5 »

Morning all

Wondering if anyone has ever taken a DPF off to clean and how easy this is, car in question 2.0hdi C5 54 plate.

Had a look at the DPF filter and was wondering how difficult it is to get DPF off?

Also what tools are needed?

Car has economy mode and depollution system fault warnings.

car is loud on the motorway and quite sluggish.

Cheers

There are places that can clean them in situ now using some flushing chemicals - even the local Halfrauds offer several levels of cleaning depending on the level of soot.

Have you also checked whether the Additive tank is adequately filled?

Hi Marc

Checked the additive tank and its not empty.

Found a video on youtube and looks pretty simple but the guys doing it on a ramp and video is French with no subtitles.

Uploaded on youtube by TheArnoj1 - if anyone is interested.

Jacked the car up and access is the problem.

Was planning on jet washing and oven cleaner Mr Muscle of course :)

From what I can make out on the video its 4 bolts that hold filter onto exhaust and a bolt/bracket towards the front

What is your VIN Danny? Ignore that, I've just located it from previously - I'll have a look shortly for you.

Ok, so here are the removal instructions for the DW10BRED4 (yours) and DW12TED4 engines:

Wait at least one hour before carrying out any work on the exhaust line.
  • Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
  • Raise the vehicle.
  • Remove the sound-proofing panel from under the engine.

  • Disconnect the temperature sensor (1) connector "a".
  • Disconnect and plug the unions of the differential pressure sensors ( 2) and (4) Using the tools [1].

Note the tools referred to as [1] above are plugs to protect the sensors.

CAUTION : Mark the tubes in relation to the pressure sensors.
    Remove
  • The pressure take-off ( 2) of the differential pressure sensor
  • The exhaust clip (3)
  • The exhaust clip (8)
  • The support fixings (9)
  • The flexible exhaust assembly (5), catalytic converter (6) and particle filter (7)
Uncouple the particle filter from this assembly (at "b").

Refitting is a reversal of the above.

Did mine when I had a C5 2.2hdi, no real problems doing it, only problem I had was one of the nuts were rusted solid in. Flood the nuts in plus gas and leave for a while before starting the job. ( not wd40)
Good luck.
