DIY lounge speaker pair

A year or so ago, I built another pair of hi-fi speakers, this time a small-ish pair for the lounge, to mate up with a new 4k Sony tv, via a small 12+12W rms amp.

Had previously put together one or two speaker pairs making use of piezo tweeters - often poo-poo'd on grounds of quality - and this time I took the trouble to calculate enclosure dimensions carefully, and use a recommended simple crossover for the tweeter, something not usually done.

The result, I must say, was impressive: far better than I'd anticipated. Pyle Pro 6.5" and 5" main drivers had been used before, but this time they turned out to be excellent partners for the piezo pair.

I know a few here are also audio buffs, so I humbly offer details of the job, in case anyone fancies an easy and really rewarding home build.

Aha, a fellow HiFi buff...

Coincidental timing - in the next week or two I was planning to do some HiFi posts in my blog - I have nothing to report on the car front lately but I know there are some electronics/hifi fans on here...

I've been very busy in the last few weeks rebuilding a pair of speakers that I have had for about 15 years to "tart" them up enough for them to be allowed into the living room! We had them in our flat in their unfinished rough cut MDF state but when we bought a house and moved they were not allowed in the living room and were dismantled with drivers in original packaging and cabinets in the loft...

Grill cloths are next (to protect them against my darling but destructive 18 month old) as well as a total overhaul of the crossover - which is necessary as I've changed the tweeter, and it was just never really completed in the first place. (Leaning quite a bit on a digital equaliser to "finish" the job...)

Can't say I've ever made a pair of home speakers, but various electronics in our home which have been achieved with a bit of 'lateral thinking'
Lounge TV is a 10yr old Plasma: Video is fed from a Sky Box by an S Video cable
Audio is via RCA's to a 1990's Sony Midi

Car (405 Est) has a pair of 80's style shelf speakers on the rear shelf which took some finding (triangular type of things)
with an alternative pair of Mini Hi-Fi speakers which hang on garden twist ties from the rear seat latches, when seats are down.
connected via an old style 2 Pin speaker connector Male/Female for easy removal and swapping

NB: £4,500 405 and counting on the bay! 'tis an Mi16 x4, but surprising nonetheless, especially given the 'Sticking Starter' that could alternatively be a seized lump.
