I'm no great fan of hybrids, and particularly not Toyota's offerings. More to do with prolonging their petrol engine production than anything else.

Toyota currently running a flashy UK tv advertisement, featuring 'get away from it all' lengthy excursions out to the forested countryside, with an emphasis on 'we have the power'.

Just what proportion of those journeys are they suggesting is being done non-petrol ? Deliberately misleading in the extreme, and ignoring the tiny battery capacity of those vehicles.

Not sure Jim, I'd guess about 800 miles since March, but around 400 of those was the trip up to the top of Scotland and back we made in July!

It gets driven so infrequently now that I feel like I'm neglecting it... 8-[

It will get a nice drive up to Aviemore and back in December though.

Poor thing :( Does them no good you know... You must have difficulty keeping the battery charged!

I try to drive it at least a couple of times a month to get it warmed up. The battery has been fine - I've gone as long as 3 weeks without driving it and it has started first try! =D>

I recently saw on the BBC news an article about a company who is re-tasking batteries from electric vehicles. What they do is to thoroughly test them, assemble packs with matched batteries, and then build them as storage walls for people with green energy sources (such as solar panels and wind turbines). The reasons these work in their new role is that they do not have to accept a large amount of power over a short period of time or have to provide large amounts of power at random intervals.

What a good idea to build walls out of batteries :) I picture a house built of batteries - or have I got that wrong and a 'wall of batteries' is purely metaphorical...

Knowing me and my brain it'll be the latter ;)

CTEK is an answer for this, if you have mains within reach. Connect and forget.
I use an MXS 3.8, which is decently priced.

That's fine for the battery Chris but in my view wheels ned to be rotated regularly to prevent flat-spots developing on the tyres and brakes need to be used to keep rust off the discs and prevent seizing calipers...

Engines and gearboxes need to be run at full operating temperature for a reasonable time to boil off any condensation/moisture in the oil.

Interiors need regular airing too for the same reason... And regularly checked for leaks...

Also, it's said to be a good idea to leave a hydraulic Citroen on low when it's out of use for a while to relieve stress on the sphere diaphragms...

It is metaphorical. While the batteries are vertically mounted in racks, they are not a wall, load bearing or otherwise. It could, however, theoretically be used as a partition wall.

That's what I was thinking James :) Bash someone's head against it and you could be done for assault and battery...

I'll get my coat....

Whilst on holiday last week, spotted a Renault Zoe which had just come over the Butter Tubs and the very giggly lady driver turned off towards Muker. ...also saw a Tesla in Hawes - sorry no pictures; dog walking and shopping respectively :(. Did get a pic of Muker church clock; will post when I download.
