Wing mirrors included.
The idea of having to drive through narrow streets/gaps with them folded in doesn't bear thinking about.....

300 miles up the A9 yesterday, and all I saw was one white Tesla S near John O'groats; however, after crossing the water to Orkney, there are electric cars everywhere - mostly Leafs; although I the first one I saw was an i3. Makes sense over here I guess, where there is generally limited distances to drive!!

Friend of mine stayed in a b&b in France belonging to an English chap. It had a huge swimming pool designed by an (English) architect friend (in feet, of course). Built by a local builder in metres. Obvious simple mistake really  .

There's quite an EV enthusiast and businessman selling EV's based in Orkney....Simon posted up a couple of videos of him demonstrating a Peugeot Ion. Jonathan Porterfield is his name.

Presumably, those living in the islands of Scotland would pay a premium for their petrol and diesel to include the cost of getting it there in the first place - hence it makes even more sense to go electric.
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

Not only that, Orkney actually produces more renewable electricity than the entire electricity needs of the island. (They have a surplus) So electric cars make even more sense than shipping that smelly stuff up from down south...

Robert from fully charged recently did a 3 piece story on Orkney including their wind and wave generation:

Well we've got a 2015 Prius as our chariot for the next couple of days, not been in one since a very early first gen car, so be curious to see what's changed.

Remember the first one while not being a fantastic motorway cruiser, was generally a very competent car for day to day use. It was certainly reliable, it was well over the 400K mark when I last saw it, and had seen very few repairs beyond normal consumables. Was still returning north of 50mpg every day too. I think rust was just starting to become an issue when I last saw the car.

I was amazed at how long the Prius has been around now... I spotted a Y-plate one a while back whilst out for a run... It looked very old-fashioned and as different from the latest generation!

Toyotas are generally long-lived and good cars but so, so bland... The exception being the Aygo of course ;)

My previous observations remain pretty much unchanged.

It's not going to get your heart rate up thanks to excitement, but it's a very competent car. The CVT transmission does make for a bit of a racket on freeway on ramps and when overtaking, but it picks up its heels perfectly acceptably when asked despite the noise. Once you ease off the throttle once up to speed the engine noise vanishes back to totally imperceptible. When driving I was honestly totally unaware of when I was running in pure EV mode versus when the engine was waking up. Around town it's a cracking car with very good visibility for a modern and somehow just being very "easy" to drive - even when my brain is struggling with strange road signs and being on the wrong side of the road.

The load space is oddly tall with the shape of the tailgate, so quite dog friendly I imagine.

The interior is even more than the earlier cars very light and airy for a modern car and just generally feels like a nice and relaxing place to be. It struck me as a sort of cross between the best bits of current Volvo and Tesla design.

An exciting car? No. A comfortable, practical, low stress way to get around, especially if you do a lot of stop-start driving? Yep.

Would I consider one? Probably yes actually if they weren't so overpriced...plus I still fancy a first gen Honda Insight...

Especially for Simon, as I know this is what he wanted really (sorry, terrible picture!)
IMAG4883[1].jpg
This is a C-zero (my first in the wild spot) - belonging I think to the Eco-Net guy. Taken at Kirkwall airport which had a panoply of E-cars. Along with the C-zero, there was a Silver Ion (not Simon's!) and a Twizzy, amongst the forrest of Leafs. I also saw another Ion, in white, at Highland Park distillery. I also saw a white Tesla S on the road over there.

It's nice in the red - I wish mine was red (I've said this about every car I've owned that wasn't red mind you  ) but it wasn't to be. Only boring silver was available within my price and collection distance range!

Well, you could always (when finances permit) get the Ion wrapped in red.

Nah... this car is a workhorse not a prised possession - it already has a few scratches and nicks on the paint and panel work before I bought it so no chance of it looking pristine now.

Just checked the trip counter and I have already done 7400 miles since buying it in March...
