Rick, don't use Photobucket - they are akin to pirates as you can't now display images in Fora without paying a ransom huge fee.
To upload an image in a post:
  • Use the Full Editor & Preview button underneath the post window.
  • Click 'Attachments' tab, to the right of the 'Options' Tab
  • Click 'Add Files
  • Browse to the Image on your PC or Phone and select it or ok this
  • You will see the image has been added
  • Optionally add a comment in the box provided
  • Place the cursor in your post, where you want the image to be displayed
  • Click the 'Place Inline' button
  • Preview your file, to check you are happy / the right image is loaded
  • Submit when ready.

Seems to be the same files?
I formatted the USB stick again and downloaded the files again, then extracted them to my E/drive
I'm just going to give it another try.for future use.

Thanks for all the info, including attaching files and pics. Easy when you know how. I've printed off the instructions

I'm sure it's an age thing, as I used to do this years ago. You don't only forget the procedure, you lose the confidence to give it a try!

Still the same result. "Checking media data "appears for approximately 6 minutes, then " Media incomplete or damaged"

Think I might have to let the dealer have a go next month.

Yep, there is also the CD install option - using the ISO file - you would need to burn a CD on slow - but I'm not going to advise it, as if there is a problem, the CD can get stuck, then it's unit out, disassemble, reverse power the CD to get the thing to eject!

These bloody RT6 systems are total pants - I've never had so many issues with people trying to undertake what should be a simple firmware update. :rant2:

Taking it to the dealer was going to be my next suggestion. You have the same file sizes, so the system does not like the USB / files, so I would suggest you ask them top undertake the firmware update to 2.86. Also check to see if the bluetooth calibration file has also been applied (to correct the reversing sensor volume being too low / high and the echo heard by recipients whilst on a bluetooth call). I suspect that is might have been, given the firmware version you are on - but I wouldn't leave it to chance - get them to check Rick.

You may need to call ahead as they may need to order in the CD for the firmware - but this should only be a couple of quid - you can then decide whether you want to install it yourself or if they do it, they may charge. The calibration file itself, is downloaded from their servers Rick.

I tried the CD method too. Burned the files to a CD-RW but got the message "unable to read CD"

Oh well. Going the official Citroen CD way, I believe the Vin has to be entered when asked for, and a CD code which should come with the CD? Not sure but having played around with the unit a couple of fields with those requirements appears when you press "Update"

That's only for the map updates Rick, not the firmware. The firmware updates the system files and corrects various bugs and makes some improvements and compatibility fixes (including in your case providing for 7 digit postcodes).

The maps themselves of course are chargeable. On the Citroen Navigation site, when you purchase them, you specify your VIN. They inject a unique code for your vehicle into the downloaded files that make it work only with your car. You then download the files onto a USB stick and the system in turn updates the internal flash memory storage system with the new map data.

Sounds good. To be honest, I can live without the updated maps, as there seems to be loads of road signs about! The 7 digit postcode search would be good for when I occasionally leave my comfort zone and venture into the metropolis. I'll get in touch with Wilmoths (Freeborne) just outside Guildford and see what they say. Service is due early November so no desperate rush. You've been an absolute mine of information Marc. Thanks for all the help.

Here's the latest. I took the car to Wilmoths of Guildford today and had a lengthy discussion with the girl on the service desk, who said "we wouldn't be able to do any updates"
After a few minutes arguing, she went off to the garage. She returned to tell me " I've spoken to my senior technician (yes I know), and he tells me categorically that my system cannot be updated with newer firmware, it remains as it was manufactured"

Surely it is a flash memory, and can be updated ?

Yes, so do I James.
I've just been on the phone to Citroen West Heath garage in Farnborough, who did my servicing and MOT's on the C5. When I told him about Wilmoths comments, he said it's possible that they are right, but he couldn't see why firmware can't be updated, it's only a computer. He is going to check and get back to me in a couple of days.

They are talking rubbish. It is an RT6 system and the current version is 2.86. More like they do not get the requests to do this and are not competent to do it. A similar situation was had by someone else - they rang up Citroen Head Office and they instructed the dealer to sort it!

A few who have had this done here:
