I have found a photograph of an early Dyson open topped sports car. It is surprisingly capacious!;

And if anybody complains here is James Dyson doing his Dirty Harry impression!;

British and successful so he has to be scorned, leave him alone chaps he wiped the floor with Hoover and the rest when they tried to nick his patents, they all followed his models and have been paying royalties for their use ever since, must be something right about them.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

Not at all, I respect his success and business skills.
I just have some issues with his products. I'd love if he read fcf and took the criticism onboard for future products. I would buy a British product over a foreign one every time if it were a good product.

We've no British car industry left bar a few mini outfits. If they'd (Rover etc) listened to the public we might just still have some uk automotive industry. It's not jealous or horrible to say this stuff at all, in fact if I met James Dyson and discussed my thoughts with him I think he'd offer me a job which I would probably accept.

Hello to all.

Jim , you mentioned pumped hydro earlier - nothing new, yet it has not been taken up by Governments.

Here is one in Ireland built between 1968 and 1974

On the Dyson subject - if it was called a V8 it would add value to it, but maybe not a FLUFFY

What a fantastic power station and most impressive it can be on-line in 13 seconds!!!

It blends into the countryside so well you'd never know it was there; just as it should be :)

Just came across and watched a 5 year old Fully Charged Episode where Robert visits the National Grid control centre:

It's a really informative interview but it's also really interesting to look at it in a historical context and see just how much things have changed in the 5 years since the interview. For example on the day of the interview Coal generation was 44% and Wind was 0.7%! Coal is now almost insignificant and wind generation is now up to 8GW with 20GW expected to be online by 2020...

In 2012 the national grid were forecasting 500,000 EV's on the road by 2020 and saying that they could easily cope with that as it would increase peak demand only by about 1GW. (Currently daily peak demand is between about 35GW and 60GW depending on the season)

Interesting stuff.

Time for a debut on the thread for the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.

If you have patience with the awful presentation of their website...on my old desktop anyway....

They came up with this story

'Drive for free' offer from Nissan and renewable energy firm Ovo
Car giant Nissan has launched a scheme that will see people able to earn money by using one of its electric vehicles.

The company have joined forces with energy firm Ovo, which has a project that will see drivers able to get a £350 in an annual credit plus the ability to save around £240 on their electricity bill by using Nissan's xStorage Home system.

The two firms are also accelerating their work on a vehicle-to-grid system which will available to drivers of the Nissan Leaf made at its Sunderland plant from next January.

OVO sponsored the Tour of Britain cycle race back in September...

Surprised they did not say you could save even more on your electricity bill if you cycle rather than drive ;)

There are actually four hydro pumped storage facilities in the UK, Dinorwic (Wales) and Cruachan (Scotland) being the largest...

Years ago, we visited Cruachan, which included a 5-minute minibus journey into the granite mountain and the generator hall - the size of a small cathedral.

Story on BBC website - Shell buys electric charging company.

Shell plugs into electric car charging company
Shell has bought NewMotion, the owner of one of Europe's largest electric car charging networks, to give its alternative fuels efforts a jolt.

Well said Gibbo. It's seemingly our national pastime - knocking the successful!

The odd thing is that we seem to revere "British" success from those that weren't born here, which I don't get at all. Mo Farah, Lennox Lewis, Graham Hick, Kevin Pietersen, Greg Rudeski and so on and so on... all wonderful.

Frank Bruno, Nigel Mansell, Lewis Hamilton, Ian Botham, Chris Eubank, Tim Henman etc... scorned.

Not by me I hasten to add!! I simply think it weird

My dad did a fair amount of design and planning on Dinorwic and I got taken around bits of it as a nipper as it was being built.
