Well, blow me down, streuth, good grief...
Just moved over to allow an approaching white Tesla S to get past on our remote local mountain track.
Gosh.

Bit big aren't they Chris  I saw one at work parked next to a Toyota Yaris and it made the Yaris look like a little toy pedal car!

It simply is too big. In fact it dented the door of the Yaris as the parking bays are simply not big enough for such huge cars and the rather portly driver was barely able to open the door to extract himself.

These cars are just silly and verging on the ridiculous... Totally unsuitable for the UK...

Unless you treat it as a lorry.

Comment on use of electricity ref power station capacity confuses me a little. Surely the bulk of charging would be done overnight' Cooking evening meal and after work arrival would of course cause a spike but the rest of the night is then pretty quiet??
Scotland with its free charging I guess is a problem for Scotland, Hehehehe!

Been over to Barrow on Soar most weeks to sort out father in laws bungalow whilst awaiting probate. Taking the pup for walks in the evening, have seen 4 Teslas which surprised me for such a small town.

Dark Blue 67 reg Tesla Model S with a SK area code on the registration. That's an Edinburgh Area Code, so guess it walked out of the Edinburgh Tesla Store.

Parked up opposite it and saw it pull in. In a car park which had loads of spaces the owner of that brand new, long and pretty wide highly expensive motor chose to park it as near as possible to the shops.

Within a few minutes up comes a large white 4X4 tractor type vehicle and turns into the even more restricted space right next to the new Tesla and another car. Must have missed the side of the Tesla by a couple of milimeters on the turn in.....forwards of course...before the straighten up adjustment and the awkward dismount of the driver in the tiny gap.

Still both the drivers of the white 4X4 and the blue Tesla saved themselves the additional 50 yards of walking had they chosen to park in the vast open spaces of the rest of the car park.

Was interested in the alleged enormity of the Tesla's, so dug out some dimensions... (L x W x H)
4970 x 1964 x 1445mm Tesla S
4963 x 1794 x 1396mm Citroen XM estate
5037 x 2070 x 1626mm Tesla X
4690 x 1930 x 1440mm Tesla 3
4524 x 1755 x 1400mm Citroen Xantia hatch
5403 x 1897 x 1859mm Hummer H3 with spare wheel

So it's the width of the Tesla's that gets interesting.

Getting on for a foot wider than the XM (assuming LxWxH) - yep.... I'd call that large  Especially when compared to the slimline parking spaces in most car parks.

2nd figure is the width is it and 3rd is height ?

Yes they are wide. I'm pretty certain a Tesla would not fit through my gate - even on my Xantia (a narrow car by today's bloated standards!) the wing mirrors only clear my gates by about 3 inches on either side...

The Model 3 is considerably smaller in dimension, especially width when you see pictures of them side by side - it would be a more "normal" European size. Still bigger than a Xantia but comparable to something like a C5 X7.

I take it back! Still a wide car if Wikipedia is to be believed!

4690 x 1930 x 1440mm Model 3

It's mainly the length that is shorter. Still looks a lot narrower in side by side photos though. :? I wonder if all of these figures include or exclude wing mirrors.

Have just checked again, and Wikipedia saying Hummer H3 is 1897mm wide.
So . . . appears they are. 8-[

But are all these figures that are being thrown around just the body width or do some of them include the tips of the wing mirrors ?
