C2 1.4 HDI -P0339 & P1351

Unread post by OhLaLa »

Hello,

Usually I don't do reaching out for advise however on this occasion I need to expert knowledge.

I have 2 fault codes showing which are:
P0339 - Crankshaft position sensor A Circuit Intermittent
P1351 - Powertrain

Today I have replaced the Crankshaft sensor and the Glowplug relay as the P1351 code suggested that the problem was down to a faultly glow plug relay, however after clearing the errors and disconnecting the battery the above have returned.

I've also treated the car to Wynns xtreme diesel injector cleaner today in the hope that maybe the P1351 code may be in relation to a bad injector, only time will tell. I have noted a flat spot when accelerating which hopefully is resolved by replacing the crankshaft sensor.

Previously (2 days ago) I brought some Wynns Diesel Egr Valve cleaner which after following instructions didn't seem to make much of any difference.

Does anyone have any thoughts or know of any common issues on the C2 1.4 HDI which could lead to these faults?
(63000 miles on the clock)

Just a thought

As I'm reading via a bluetooth ODB2 reader and also using Torque Pro to clear the codes is it possible that the ODB2 reader is incapable to clearing the code and that I need to use Lexia?

These are Manufacturer's Codes generic codes don't always give you the full code - in this case PSA determine these as:
P1351: 'Fault on the pre-postheating relay circuit : Relay controlled / plugs not controlled'
P0339: 'Intermittent fault, Engine speed signal: Incorrect signal'

Try cleaning the crank sensor electrical contacts - it's quite low down on the C3, and can get a lot of crud and water inside. Some electrical contact cleaner might also help.

Hi Marc,

Thanks for the response.
I'll give the crank connector a good clean later.

Last night I disconnected the battery until this morning in the hope that it may clear the faults. I reconnected , started the car and ended up with the same two faults PLUS a bonus P3007 - Powertrain
Having read around the forum I've done a 'Power Latch' and a 'BSi reset' but the codes remained (seem to be the same procedure)

At this point I gave up then released that I hadn't properly read the Torque Pro notice - some cars require that the engine isn't running when clearing the ECU and I had previously ran the engine whilst clearing, key in and clearing the ECU worked - no faults, I checked twice.

So it would appear to clear the ECU with Torque Pro, inset key, turn key but don't start the engine.
Interestingly on a Fiat Grande Punto and an Audi A4 B7 you can clear faults whilst the vehicle is running, hence why I never thought to check.

I'll have a look when I get home from work later but I'm hoping that the initial faults were stored (now cleared) don't reappear, update to follow.

Cam Sensor £5 scrap yard, sorted!
Crank Sensor connector cleaned.
No ECU codes present.

I'm going to put the problems down to the car being 9 years old, I'd assume a garage would charge a small fortune chasing these problems.

My MPG has gone from 45mpg up to 60mpg as a result of the change :)

Next on the list is a top mount change but that's for the garage to sort out.
