Xantia rev counter

My 1997 Xantia 1.9 TD SX has started to behave a little oddly......more so than our beloved Xantias usually do anyway!
When driving at more than 30mph (ish), the rev needle drops down to zero for a few seconds, then picks back up again.
Anyone else had this problem?
Its not bothering me, just wondered if I was the only one!

A common problem.
Use the SEARCH button upper right.
Tip in "rev counter".
- and you get loads on this issue ...

Are you noticing any strange engine noises when this happens, or warning lights.

It is VERY often as you will find the seonsor on the FLYWHEEL at the back of the engine beginning to play up. They quite often do play up. I have had a few I've had to change..

No strange engine noises at all. Just the needle drops every no and then. I wouldn't say its often, I have noticed it maybe 5 or 6 times on an hour drive, but it may be doing it more than that!

i've had the sensor on speedo and rev counter replaced on my xantia both were the same ok till car got warmed up and then the needle would just drop sometimes it was intermittent.
