Re: The C5 shall return
Jim, I will have to pop up some time with my Dyson DC22 (which is supposed to be good for those with allergies). I got lucky with it. Somebody dropped it off at my local Sue Ryder shop. As they are not geared up for electrical testing they were getting rid of it, so I made a donation of £10 with no guarantees. I got it home, connected it up via an RCD, and it worked (sort of). It turned out the two filters were VERY blocked (to the point that they were irrecoverable). There was also an issue with the telescopic tubing. £70 later (filters and other bits) I have a decent little vacuum cleaner (and, second hand on Amazon, they go for £200).

I'll bring Miele and I challenge your Dyson to a duel at noon. It'll have to be outside, Jim's house is immaculate.

Re: The C5 shall return
I have never tried Miele, so I would not know. My Dyson looks a bit tatty (I think the former owner was a builder/decorator (going by the state of it)), but now it seems to be happy to be used in a normal environment.

Re: The C5 shall return
We got conned into buying a Dyson vacuum cleaner and regretted it. What a PITA it was emptying the container without a bag to contain all the mess. Dust everywhere. We went back to our favourite cleaners - the Vaxes. A proper bag to contain all the muck and two more filters to tap any escaping dust. My middle daughter has a Dyson (she only buys brands - sucker) which she left with us. We put it in the lock-up out of the way. Useless POS.
It's a pity that Dyson don't do a bag cleaner to go with the cyclone technology. I might be interested in trying that.
WRT the hand driers - I've always been impressed with the blade driers. Provided you move your hands through slowly and don't try to rub them like in traditional driers they work great. Operator error seems to be the most common problem.

No - we don't want bags - bagless rules, less waste. Perhaps you haven't seen the new models - there's a lever to press that opens the bottom of the canister - crap ejected into bin, then second push on the lever slides down a contraption over the gauze that scrapes all the fluff out and into the bin - total time to empty about 5 seconds.

Just to bring it back to cars a little bit... has anyone tried hoovering up a bit of Eolys fluid.... I find it's the best way to regen my HEPA filter without having to dismantle and do it manually

Spoilsport!
But you still get all the muck, especially dust, floating around. No thankyou. As I said a cyclone cleaner with a bag. That'd be the DB.GiveMeABreak wrote: ↑27 Sep 2017, 10:55 No - we don't want bags - bagless rules, less waste. Re: The C5 shall return
I agree about the bags.
Nothing worse than emptying the canister then having to hoover the mess that you already hoovered.
Vax for me is number 2, they clean ok but the drive belts are far to weak and should be a chain or cogs.
Operator error is a biggy on the airblades but they still suck.
Maybe Citroen should go into vacuum cleaners and hand driers now they don't make Interesting cars.

Oh dear, I was looking for pictures to show the 3 issues clearly and found this.
I'm not sure what to say, operator error in the extreme.- GiveMeABreak

No way! - Whilst waiting for the new Dyson to be delivered - I got the (brand new) Vax out. I am not kidding you - I had to get my pair of ear defenders out to use the bloody thing - it was deafening and I am serious. There's no way that thing is safe to use and certainly is louder than my hammer drill. We only got it for the carpets - but will never use it again - we'll hire a Hydromist in future.

Re: The C5 shall return
I did take my vaxe back after one use. The guy in the shop thought I was mad as I told him it was crap compared to my 10year old one. He asked what make is it? When I said Miele he just said right ok and refunded me.
My student house had Dyson, it just moved dirt about so we brushed instead. To be fair to Dyson it broke twice and on both occasions they sent me the parts promptly and free. This was despite the breakages obviously being from misuse.
What's a hydromiste? Do I want one?

Aah a carpet cleaner.
I like rugdoctors best.
The karcher ones are rubbish.
Need to try hydromist now.
I thought it sounded like a foot spa.

Who would ever have thought vacuum cleaners and hand driers could lead to such a great discussion This is worth a thread all of its own I reckon
Lots to say yet but I'm feeling uncharacteristically conscious at how this topic is going so far off-topic
