Jim do you have a whatsthisthen? of your own from your New Forest escapades? I do like exercising the grey matter myself, but can't participate in my own!

The wheel nearly gave it away for me, I remembered looking at one of those wheels somewhere last year, but could not remember what it was attached to.

Here is one to get you thinking. I have another couple tucked away for later.

No, but I do have a couple from when I visited the Haynes Motor Museum with Alasdair from a few weeks ago... I will suitably edit and then offer up...

Well those wheels look very much like Ford Escort xr3i wheels!

http://uk-pic1.ciao.com/uk/140444154.jpg

So here's the first wrong guess (yes virtually everything apart from the wheels is wrong!), (did think at first sight, that may be a Talbot Horizon but the bonnet isn't right so rejected that)

Its a Ford Escort XR3......because its got Escort XR3/XR3i wheels!

Cloverleaf Alloys I do believe, but maybe other manufacturers fitted these, or maybe they aren't standard on the car in the photo.

If anyone wants to go off on an Alloy Wheel diversion, as is the modus operandi of modern internet journalism I give you a list with pictures and a tiny bit of writing on each of the featured wheels.

If you have the patience the Citroen CX does feature with its best standard alloys, although the writing does bemoan the fact that the rears aren't shown to their best when it is parked up!

As well as the exotica on very expensive cars, our Ford Cloverleaf Alloys also make an appearance to provide the seamless link to my incorrect guess above.

I am struggling to give a tangential clue, but it is safe to say that, ignoring the wheels, the model has mixed parentage.

The problem with identifying cars from the fitted wheels is that the wheels are frequently swapped by owners for 'something better'.
The red car in the last post is I think a Nissan, Micra maybe?

Another clue..

This differently cropped picture may remind you of a more common version, which should give you something to work with.

yes the interior looks straight out of a mini metro city!

The bonnet and how it opens is the funny thing .

The Talbot lotus sunbeam has mixed parentage, but not a bonnet like that!

And probably not XR3 cloverleaf alloys!

Help! More tangental clues required!

Its a very fair whatsthisthen? i mean you have given us virtually 50% of the car.

Now I have to presume its a hatchback. This site gives virtually every hatchback that has ever lived or breathed!

Hatch Heaven

I have preloaded it with Peugeot, but just as a matter of interest does the hatchback in question appear on that site?
Maybe you can pop a search term into that site and let us know :-D

Yes the model does appear on that site (without those wheels).

The reason I could show so much of the car is that the hatchback version was not sold in the UK, but a '3 box' version, with different trim, was.

Excellent! A bit of diligent ploughing through 255 3-door hatchbacks should come up with the goods :-D but maybe someone may get it straight away with your latest info.

thanks

Now I wonder if we have a bullseye here, and perhaps a photo from somewhere down under :-D
Spoiler: show
.... and the parentage Mazda and Ford. Would look bettter with cloverleaf alloys to smarten it up!
