The Pickled Egg-Morse Code Tunes!

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

Came across this which may have half a chance of of entertaining some of the Pickled Egg punters.

There really is nothing unpleasant about it, and if you know your morse code....all the better.

I am no expert but CQ as in the title does have a particular meaning. One interesting explanation of its origins is in the French word "sécurité". The recording is from 1960, it crackles at the start. has a bit of morse, then goes into a "swing" sort of tune......yes on the whole semi-interesting and reasonably pleasant.

Yes and on Inspector Morse, very subtle never realised
Spoiler: show
The music spelt out his name and left an indelible mark on our minds.

The British public’s thirst for classy crime drama was well and truly satiated by John Thaw’s brilliant portrayal of the world-weary, classical music-loving detective, who entered our lives between 1987 and 2000.

The dark, hypnotic theme tune was composed by Australian-born Barrington Pheloung, who employed a Morse code motif for the letters that spell the name M.O.R.S.E.

In occasional episodes, Pheloung’s music would even reveal the name of the killer in Morse code, or sometimes the name of another character (as a red herring).

The series also contained plenty of Morse’s beloved opera and other classical favourites, and spawned several best-selling albums.
Here's the theme

The Pickled Egg-Morse code of the Day

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

It's surprising how many morse code connected pieces of music there are :-D

You may have to be a Rush fan to appreciate this instrumental. It's YYZ a staple of Rush live sets.
from Wiki
YYZ is the IATA airport identification code of Toronto Pearson International Airport, near Rush's hometown. The band was introduced to the rhythm as Alex Lifeson flew them into the airport. A VHF omnidirectional range system at the airport broadcasts the YYZ identifier code in Morse code. Peart said in interviews later that the rhythm stuck with them.[1] Peart and Geddy Lee have both said "It's always a happy day when YYZ appears on our luggage tags."[2]

The piece's introduction, played in a time signature of 5
4, repeatedly renders "Y-Y-Z" in Morse Code using various musical arrangements.[3][4]

Well to finish off the Pickled Egg Jukebox's diversion into morse code I reckon 10 tracks should be easy enough to fill up.

There's 3 already and

The Clash London Calling has a morse code ending so that's no 4

Lets have some classical, alright, it pre-dates morse code by a few years, but Beethoven's Victory Symphony ie his 5th, "V" in roman numerals has the dit-dit-dit-dah..............morse code for the letter "V"

So Beethoven's 5th is number 5

During WW2 the "V" morse code audio played on drums preceded Radio Londres broadcasts to France and their secret messages

The Pickled Egg-Morse Code Tunes!

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

From Beethoven to "Some mothers do av em"

Ronnie Hazelhurst penned the tune and the piccolo part at the beginning does indeed spell out "Some mothers do av em" (purposely minus appropriate apostrophes)

Pickled Egg Jukebox-10 Morse Code Tracks Number 6 is

The Pickled Egg-10 Morse Code Tracks

At number 7 an interesting song from Roger Waters

Well worth a listen if you haven't heard it before....its one of those songs that if you find it interesting first time you could happily play it a few times on the bounce getting more out of it each time.

Couldn't be further from "Some Mothers do av em" but that is the beauty of the one and only Pickled Egg Jukebox! :-D

Regards Neil

PS I've just let Roger Waters autoplay on on youtube from "the Tide is Turning" absolutely top quality stuff...never heard it before.

A few years ago I bought yet another album with Rodrigo's "Concerto de Aranjuez" ( I have quite a number now) and the above was a delightful surprise in the CD.
