How many words on the card? Is it animal vegetable or mineral :!: :!: Would idenytifying the tree help?

That's 3 Questions....17 to go!

Regards Neil

PS Not sure how many guesses you got in the original game...........first one from me without much research

Has it got something to do with Aldermaston of RAF Station and nuclear power plant fame! (although the tree looks more oak-like than alder-like.)

Nope - nothing so tortuous. You just need to have a very close look at the trunk, and know what a Zero Station was used for :)

And yes - it's an Oak. Here's another view of the same trunk :)

50 points to the man :-D

It's from the Shipley (West Sussex) Zero Station for the Auxiliary Units. The tree is close by to the (now collapsed) underground hideout and, indeed, the scar is where the aerial wire was secreted beneath the bark. Although I've got photos from in there, they don't really show much as it was difficult to get a wide enough shot to show any great value. Below, however, is a photo of an entrance to a different Sussex Aux Unit site. The entrance isn't much larger than a fox hole - and yes, I did go all the way in :-D

And I think this is at the end of that entrance, although my cataloguing isn't what it should be, so it may have been a different one of the Sussex Aux Units.

POTD Queensferry Crossing opened today!

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

...at 1.30 in the morning......why?

Cos it looks pretty at night......

Regards Neil

PS Of course the Queen was never going to turn up at 1.30 am, so the "Official Opening" by the Queen is on 4th Sept.

The new bridge opens to traffic for the first time on 30 August, prior to closing on 2-3 September for the Queensferry Crossing Experience, when 50,000 members of the public have the unique opportunity to walk across the bridge – following a ballot that attracted almost 250,000 entries.

Opening organised by Unnecessarily Convoluted Timetable Limited :-D

That picture reminds me of the current subtle TV ad for Senokot.

I had to look up what Senokot was  Clearly not something I've ever felt in need of...

Now why on earth do they need to advertise something like that on telly?

Just a little worse than advertising feminine hygiene products and bogrolls

Totally unnecessary...

It's choice Jim, take your pick Woodbines or Players that's what advertising is all about. :)

Or maybe we should go along the Soviet route and the choice is a Lada, take it or leave it. Did they have to advertise Ladas in the Soviet era? :?

Sorry Gibbo, I should have made myself clearer... I find adverts for those kind of products rather unpleasant.

It was not a statement about choice... I'm all for that even if there's often far too much :)

I love those illustrations... They depict a perfect world...

I love the drawn illustrations on the covers of magazines from the days before photographs were used...

Lots of examples but those magazines edited by F J Camm such as Practical Wireless are typical...

Such as this one:
